I have been planning for 2018 and wanted to see if anyone else wanted to share their goal setting and planning or strategies for 2018.

I know this past year has broken and blessed me. I have learned so much and can't wait to get the new year kicked off. I am working on setting my goals into categories: Professional, Financial, Physical, Familial, Horsemanship, and Educational. Professionally, I sell cars as a career now and I want to improve my selling skills so I am looking at educational tools for that. Financially, in 2018 I want to max out my Roth IRA. Physically I want to redo my fitness and meal plans. Spend more time with family. Remake my schedule for my weeks and days. Horsemanship/Barrel racing: I want to take more lessons and attend a clinic this year.

I would love to hear others! I love this time of year.

I was busy with other things most of this year but a goal of mine is to get my horse legged up and keep him legged up long enough to go to several jackpots and a couple of big shows. Goal number 2 is to get at least one possibly two other horses started and hauling.

2018 will be a year of organization for me as I will be wearing more hats than I’ve ever tried to juggle. For the first time in my life I will be a wife, mother, and a nursing student. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been in school, so I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t nervous! My goal is to kill it and graduate in the top 5 in my class!

I like how you broke them out into categories! I think I'll have to try that this year!

That is exciting! I'm sure you can do it! I am trying to organize this year so that I can make sure I am on track. I want to do big things this year but they are going to take organization and effort

Yes. Make it to 2019 with less broadside skidding through life than 2017. Aiming for a more structured, planned out approach than the usual leaping before looking life decisions that I'm becoming famous for with my friends and family.

I want to have a good show season with Audie. Having him out all year kind of left me lost for the year. Most of my day revolves around brushing and show prep. I want to try for the Hi Point Rookie in Hunter Under Saddle for our state AQHA awards. And Nov Am Showmanship Hi Point. I was Reserve one year and only went to 1/2 the shows as the woman that beat me out.

I would love to get my drive to ride back. That way I can finish my colt and try and hit some of the fall futurities.

I also hope to find my son a decent all around horse. One he can ranch on and do the shows with me as well as 4H.

2017 was a great year for me! It started with a bang - winning 2nd at the toughest amatuer rodeo around on New Year's Eve - and we closed the 2017 rodeo season with Chance aka the gray monster winning the average and 2 rounds at the United Rodeo Association Finals in November. I also found my real calling in life as a high school special education teacher and Matt popped THE question earlier this month. Let's just call it a banner year!

My 2 big barrel racing goals for 2018 are to win the Interstates Rodeo Association title - I have finished 3rd, 4th, and 2nd, but never 1st - and to qualify for the URA Finals again. So very many things have to fall your way to win the URA that it's not even a goal I will write down.
Matt and I want to expand/continue our side business of riding/training/tuning outside horses. We started taking in outside horses in August and have enjoyed watching ones we've ridden put smiles on their owners' faces.
Personally, we're going to be getting married in 2018 - probably late in the spring - so maybe my first goal needs to be finding a dress! LOL
I am going to be taking more graduate classes to become certified to teach Special Education starting next month so another goal of mine is to successfully balance being a student, teacher, fiancee/wife, and barrel racer. It might make for some long days!

2017 was a good year for me. I graduated vet school and started my dream job.

For 2018 my goals aren't too crazy... I want to continue to grow my clientele base at work and get busier. I am getting married in April!

I want to save as much money as I can while paying off my enormous student loan balance...yay me.

I plan to haul my first home grown baby I've kept myself. We entered one Futurity this year and that'll probably be it due to my work schedule and amount of bills I have *thanksvetschool*

I just bought a book at Barnes & Noble with some goal setting ideas, how to break them down and ecouraging sayings with monthly calendars to keep track of the mini steps you are taking to get to your bigger goals.

That’s so awesome! One of my goals is to find a prospect that I can start and hopefully take to some rodeos this year. I think we are in a similar area of the Midwest, if you know of anything could you send me a pm? TIA and good luck in KC if you’re up there this weekend

This will be the first year that I haven't made a horse-centered goal in over 10 years. I am horseless going into 2018.
I'd really like to finish paying off my credit cards- I have just over $1,000 left to pay off. It sounds easy, but I'm also paying on my student loans every months and those are really killer.
I'd also like to lose 20 lbs., and keep my car clean enough to where I don't apologize every time someone else gets in it.
Other than that, I want to stay focused on my relationship with Christ, and use that to fuel my personal relationships. 2017 has been a blessing, and I look forward to what the new year brings!

Oh 2017.... it's been a roller coaster ride right up until the end. I'm hoping for better news at the start of 2018. This past year I stepped away from barrel racing and only showed in hand or western. My paint gelding that I bred and raised took Reserve Champion at both circuits for our local shows, and several Reserve High Points throughout the year. One small goal I set was to place first in showmanship and in hand trail with him-- we accomplished this and more. I entered the year with a focus on my horsemanship while finishing out my 5 year old grey mare and started to challenge her with other disciplines. We showed her a handful of times this year, while she's currently baking me my Fly the Red Eye baby. Expected in February.

In 2018, I hope to focus on improving my eating habits. I also plan to get my CHPN certification for work.
I'll be starting my paint gelding under saddle this spring. When he goes on break, I'll start my grey mare back up and focus on all around. My goal is to show her WT All Around this Fall.

1. Get back to weighing 130-135 (only 5 lbs away!)
2. Send my horse to the trainer at the end of winter
3. Either finally make things work with staff horse it sell him with trainers help
4. Buy a new horse, hopefully not another sorrel
5. If I keep sorrel horse, then start to finally have fun at jackpots
6. Have no hospital visits and to pay off all previous hospital bills
7. Have a fun and loving year with my two girls and husband
8. Be closer to God and pray more

How am I going to do all of this? I have no idea.

The biggest goal we have is to get our barn house built and move out of my in-laws' place. Getting stalls with runs built on our property will allow us to move our horses home, and get rid of the boarding bill, which we can then use that money towards our mortgage and try to keep our debts down.

We plan on doing more advertising for my husband's equine vet practice, and hopefully keep increasing his clientele. Having a treatment area with a stall or two for ICU cases and colics on fluids would be an asset to our community, so I look forward to that aspect of our barn house as well.

I was training for a marathon before I got hurt a couple years ago, so I plan on busting out my running shoes (finally again!) and continue practicing yoga. I would also like to do at least one sprint tri, and go cycling more.

Horse wise, I hope for healthy foals and mamas this spring. I have a coming 4yo filly that I'll be sending off to the trainer for 30 days, and there are a couple things I want to fine tune with her before she leaves.

I want to focus more on meditation, letting myself just be present and not always rushing, rushing, rushing. I am very impatient, so I would like to stop and smell the roses more.

I wish everyone the best with their goals!

My trainer has a Fly The Red Eye baby and I think he is the best looking weanling there. Sounds like you had a good year.
