One of our boys decided last night his blanket had too many bindings and tore one of his belly straps off. I'm gonna have to engineer something for the next few days cause we're gonna get colder by Monday night than I can remember in a looonnng time (wind chill prob around 5 or so---that's cold cold for SE AR). I think I've read about blanket repair services that I can send it to??? Just wondering if any of y'all had dealt with this.

Go to Valley Vet supplys and Chicks discount saddlery, they are having a sale on blankets. I agree with Jake, it might be cheaper to buy one on sale then to get one repaired/with shipping cost's.

You two ladies are so smart--I didn't even think about the cost of shipping added onto the actual repair cost. . . .

I purchased two winter blankets this year from Big D's and have been extremely happy so far! I purchased a 180gram fill blanket with 1680d on the outside, and a 300 gram fill blanket with 1200d on the outside, and love them so far. My guy rolls outside all the time, and plays a lot with his pasture buddies, and the blankets still look brand new. Customer service with Big D's is amazing, if you get your order in before 3pm, they ship the same day, and I have always received my orders in 2 days. They have some great sales going.

Sean and I were looking at sales last night. . . We have Sonny's last year blanket, but he's so big that it looks like a mini skirt on him!! However, that's probably what's going on him tonight. It fits perfectly except for the length. . . He's recovering from injury, so I thought he'd be the calmest of the 5---but nope!

Tear mender from tractor supply. I used it on my horses belly strap 2 winters ago and its still holding. That stuff holds anything.

I've used fishing line to fix some blankets, and it holds good. So if you are a bit handy you may be able to fix it yourself. Wait a couple of more months and the store will be dumping their old stock of blankets for a lot nicer prices.

I'm not a seamstress by any means, but I've done repairs on some work clothing many times. I thought I could probably rig this to work awhile longer, but he tore the strap right at the buckle all the way thru. . . So mid belly is where it's torn, not near the edge of the blanket. Will the TSC kit work for that? And I just happen to know someone with lots of fishing line

Do you have a shoe / boot repair shop or a saddle shop close to you ...
repair should be easy and quick with their heavy duty sewing machines
or by hand stitching ..

TWINE fixes everything! lol. Wrap a string of twine around his belly where the cinch goes and it should hold the blanket in place and get you through til you can get it fixed.

The 1200D with 300 gram fill- is that a Horze one? I ordered three of those yesterday (such a great sale!), and I am hoping they are going to work well. It has been FREEZING up here, and my range pony who isn't used to blankets is having such a blast tearing her current one up

It's a Country Pride blanket. I love it so far, has held up perfectly! I attached a picture..I really love Big D's, their customer service is great, and I have placed about 6 orders with them and have always received my order in 2 days.

YES! I had a blanket with twine holding it together for years- every spring I would vow to fix it, then put it in storage and promptly forget about it until it was freezing and the horse needed the blanket sooner than I had time to fix it

I looked up my order and those are the ones I purchased, except mine is just a solid color, but that pattern is cool! I looked at so many blankets yesterday, my mind is fried! That is good to hear they are nice blankets! Thank you!

It really is great quality, and a great price! The past week here in VT the day's have been around -10 and nights around -20, and he's very comfortable! I love the high neck on it, and the straps and buckles are great quality. If the sale sticks around for awhile, I'm going pick up the same blanket with no fill, just as a rainsheet.

That blanket sounds like a winner then, I am excited for mine to come in the mail! Thank you for all the info! I hope you and your ponies stay warm!

For the time being you can buy elastic belly straps that wrap around the entire belly to secure the blanket in place.

Anyone else looking for blankets, Horseloverz.com has some awesome deals

I have hand sewn tears with heavy duty thread and then put E-6000 glue on it. We get lots of rain in the PNW and I'm on my second winter. Has worked out great.

Didn't think to put glue over it... Good idea.
I don't blanket at all right now, but it is definitely something to remember for the future.
