Got home from work around 6:15 and noticed one of my dogs (Josie) smelling around in the road. Not the dog that would normally be at edge of the road (that would be Allie). . . . Pulled into yard and that dog wasn't to be seen. I knew something was wrong, and sure enough when the headlights hit the kennel, Allie was sitting in it. I jumped out and she wouldn't move. Blood all over back left leg, swollen, obviously broken. I told Sean she'd been run over. When I couldn't get her to move I was afraid it was both legs or pelvis. I called my vet, who doesn't do emergency calls anymore---but she said bring her on. Long story short, that leg is badly broken, but thank the good Lord that seems to be the only injury. Andrea medicated her (pain and antibiotics), got the open wound to stop bleeding, and bandaged the leg up good. She doesn't do complicated bone surgeries, so in the morning we will know more about options---either a vet about 30 minutes from us, or MS State, which is about 3 hours. It will probably be Monday before surgery is done either way. Please say a prayer for my poor little girl. . . .

I am so sorry this happened to your girl tonight, I pray Allie isn't in too much pain, and she stays comfortable until they can do surgery! Give her lots of hugs and kisses, and we will be praying for the best!

Miss Mary, she stayed at the vet's so they could watch her and keep her comfortable. We'll see her in the morning (and take treats!) and get an idea of what our next step is. She was settled in her inside kennel on a blanket when Andrea sent me a picture after they had her bandaged and medicated. She looked a little high to me ( ) but I'm ok with that since I can just imagine how much that leg hurts. . . .

Thank y'all for thinking of her

Aww, it stinks when our furry friends are hurt. What a smart pup to go right back to her kennel and wait for you to save her! Prayers all turns out well and she recovers quickly and well.

Darn..... I am so sorry that this happened and hopefully, she will recover. We had a catahoula with a badly broken leg when she was run over by my Great Dane.....It never healed quite right but she was still able to use it without pain and get around chasing cattle .... Good Luck!

We picked her up this morning and took her to Greenville, MS. The vet said he could handle the surgery unless we just preferred MS State---I told him if he felt comfortable doing it then I felt fine with it too. He took the bandage off and cleaned it really good, packed with furazone and sugar, then rewrapped it and splinted it. He will do the surgery Monday (or Tuesday if he has to order the plate for her leg). The break was awful---I'm not squeamish but her leg fell sideways OFF the main bone at one point, and I had to go lay down in the waiting room for a few minutes before I puked/passed out. Sean was way better than I was--he even held the leg straight for Dr. Wilkerson to wrap. She never whimpered, just kept looking around and then laid her head on my hand. He mentioned amputation, but I told him I'd rather not start there; if we have a chance to save her leg, I want to at least try. She was dumped at Momma's house during the March '16 flood, and when I couldn't find a home for her, I kept her of course. She's been thru a lot and I'm not gonna let her down on this. With that being said, I am looking for a buyer for my kidney to finance this blue-eyed princess' medical misfortune

Seriously, we appreciate the thoughts and prayers. . .
