| What do you all do to keep the neighbors dog out of your yards? We aren't on speaking terms with our neighbor but their dog is always at our place (we live about 1/8th mile away) crapping in my yard, peeing on my hay. I chase it home but it's still here!! We did have a sick bull he was eating the crap once and he must of smelled because that got their attention and they kept him home a few days, but now he's right back over here. RANT Rant Rant |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Do you have a local no kill shelter? Sounds like the pup isn't appreciated by his owners if they let him roam and possibly get hit by a car etc. Sounds like he needs an owner upgrade! Drop him at the shelter as a stray. And hopefully he gets a better owner the next time around. |

| Same thing happened to me a few years ago. I took pictures of the dog on my property and in my horse pens. I gave 3 warnings with pictures to the neighbors. On 4th time bullet. I checked with law enforcement in my county and I am able to defend my livestock and property. |

The problem is, so often, if the dog(s) sees me first, they run away, so I don't have time to take photos, call animal control (which wouldn't help where I live), or shoot. I wake up to dead chickens, scattered trash, and if my dogs are out (supervised by me, while I am mowing or riding), they have been attacked on my own property. A few months ago it happened, I ended up with a $300 vet bill and my little dog had a fractured foot. All I can say is, good fences make good neighbors, but I do not have the $ to fence out dogs. So, I just keep dealing with it as best I can.
I will say that the last thing I want to do is getting in a dog-shooting war with the neighbors. |

| My neighbors have I think 4 dogs they let roam free.... drives me insane. They've killed 4 of our chickens.. I paid a visit to them after the 1st chicken was killed and I warned them if their dogs came onto our place again, we'd shoot them dead.. that only worked for about 2 days.. we've called the sheriff, animal control, we live pretty rural.. but people like to cycle on our back roads.. those dogs would go chasing the cyclists all the way down the road.. I've seen them sprayed several times with mace. I heard ac came and took 1 dog because it actually attacked a cyclist and ripped his leg open. But I still see the rest of the dogs, luckily my old grumpy gelding is pretty protective of the pasture so if they get in there he is quick to run them off before they can reach where the chickens are. I hate those dogs, I keep a little bb gun in my tack room, I'll admit I don't have the heart to shoot them dead, but I can pop them in the butt with a bb to run them off.. thought about getting a,paintball gun and blasting them when they come onto our place, maybe that'll wake up the neighbors! |

I will say that the last thing I want to do is getting in a dog-shooting war with the neighbors. For your problem (dead chickens, vet bills, damage, etc.) .... put up game cameras and catch the dog in the "act" .....then sue your neighbor in small claims court for damages plus court costs......regarding shooting the dog, be sure to check your state's laws. In some states, you can be prosecuted for shooting a dog .....even if it is in your livestock pen.

Call animal control or the Sheriff and have them go to the neighbor and have them talk to them about their dog, tell the Sheriff that y'all are not on talking terms and dont want a problem with the neighbor because of the dog. |

Location: Windoming | Our neighbor's dog stopped coming over after I doused her with a bucket of water. She had been in heat and coming over constantly. Then when I did that, she stopped coming over. So my dog went over to their house! I told the guy just dump a bucket of water on him, it worked on his dog! And it worked on mine. Both dogs stayed home after that. |

One almost got the SSS last time because it growled at my husband when he went to drag it out of my feed room. I called the neighbor and said come get your dog because it growled at us and is about to die. They have actually been penning them since then. |

| I would not punish the dog but I am an animal lover. My neighbor as two really mean German shepherds. They got out once and attacked my dog. Apparently to stop the fight they kicked my dog in the mouth. My dog is a three legged mini Aussie. Vet bill was just a little over $700. They shoot my horses with a BB/pellet gun. I have seen them shooting twice. Have $400 in vet bills from that. Sheriff's office says there is nothing I can do about it.
Here is my recommendation.....get some pepper spray and spray the dog every him he is at your house. The other suggestion---a bit crazy---read up on Voodoo and make a Voodoo doll. So far, so good, at my house. |
