Location: East Texas | There was a comment on another thread that got me to thinking. What is the best way to go from practice pen to hauling to rodeos/jackpots? So how do you take the horse that is ready to leave the practice pen to being on the road every week? |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | Just do it and see what happens! I threw my colt into it and she handled everything amazing. I think it also depends on the type of rider you are- if you are confident and don't give them anything to be nervous about you are already a head of the game.

| If we have the room we start by just taking them alongside our finished horses. We have a colt that will go with us as a grand entry horse this summer to see the sights and sounds. Once he’s working a decent pattern at home I’ll start taking him to smaller jackpots to do time onlys and then eventually start to enter there.
We don’t baby them too much, but I’m not going to waste entry fee money on one I don’t think has a shot in heck yet. Roping once they are working good at home we’ll select jackpots that will have slower cattle, lower numbered jackpots, or round robins to take them too. |

Location: WI | I only have 1 horse at a time, so his 4yo year I hauled to probably 5 jackpots to exhibition. Then, just started entering him early his 5yo year. I entered prly 3 3-day races before his first futurity. He wasn't seasoned until 1/2 through his futurity year, then got hurt. Oh well, live and learn!
If I were more serious in the futurity game, I would haul them as a 4yo like it was their futurity year. If they are quicker to season, I could back off. They are all individuals - my first futirity horse was born seasoned, I swear. |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | I went slow and "ran" exhibitions once a month before stepping up to showing and traveling more. The horse will let you know if you need to back down any. |

Location: Nebraska | I only had one this time around so I just hauled to everything local and rode around. When I was confident she wasn't an idiot and would focus on me, I exhibitioned. When I finally had her to where she would have a decent exhibtion, I'd enter. Figured even if she was just 5D that it's better than just drilling on exhibtitions that don't count for anything lol. |
