| So If I bred a double registered QH/Paint to a Paint, what would the foal be eligible for?
^What if I bred it to a QH?
Also.... what if I bred a solid paint (paint only) to a QH?

AQHA/APHA to AQHA = AQHA/APHA
AQHA/APHA to APHA = APHA
solid paint to AQHA = APHA most likely breeding stock
colored paint to AQHA = APHA might luck out and get color unless homozygous | |

I'm not sure why breeders breed solid colored Paints to QH but they do, the resulting foal can only be reg. solid colored APHA. We do hope we get colored foals but that is not our main focus. We bred tobiano to tobiano, some might not be homozygous tobiano so we take a chance. Bloodlines, conformation and temperament should come first, having color is a big bonus.
If you bred a QH/Paint to a QH most likely you will get a solid colored foal that will be a grade foal.

I'm not sure why breeders breed solid colored Paints to QH but they do, the resulting foal can only be reg. solid colored APHA. We do hope we get colored foals but that is not our main focus. We bred tobiano to tobiano, some might not be homozygous tobiano so we take a chance. Bloodlines, conformation and temperament should come first, having color is a big bonus.

APHA (solid color -1parent AQHA other APHA) to AQHA does not mean a grade foal.. It did at one time but that isn’t the case anymore.. There are classes and races the resulting foal is ineligible for. We raised paints for years. He was tobiano and we just bred to AQHA ourselves.
I’m breeding a race winning solid APHA mare (by APHA stud o/o AQHA mare) to a very nice AQHA stud. I’m doing this bc I want the best foal I can afford- not just color. I still think if they don’t look good as a sorrel, spots don’t help, lol.

Exactly! I breed a double registered solid brown mare to only QH studs. She was AAA and a race winner in AQHA as well as APHA. I go ahead and register her solid babies AQHA/APHA but they are far from grade. | |

I have a double reg solid gelding that I'm getting his APHA papers on because of the side pot stuff. Not that I can make a bunch on money in it, but its a great avenue for horses that aren't FF, or any of the other big name sidepot eligible. | |
