Has anyone been? A friend and I are planning on going.  Sounds like fun!  Any info about the area, arena, fairgrounds is appreciated.

Never been either but I think 3 or 4 of us are going to go this year.  I have always heard it was fun.  I have to admit that I was disappointed when I saw it was just 1 go and a short.  I figured it would be 2 go's and a short.

I think it is 2 go's and 1 short.  Thursday and Friday are the long go's, Short go on Saturday and an open race on Sunday.

been once several years ago. It is an indoor arena, and a covered warmup pen. It is on the edge of Texarkana on the Arkansas side. You could prob. google four states fairgrounds and get some info.

It is hard for me to get out of school to go but my horse will be there. She loves that pen.

It's a great race, well ran, good payout, good ground and dead tough. Don't think for a second because it is seniors that it will be any easier than any other event because its not. The arena is on the smaller side, kind of a narrow arena IMO. They let you in a side gate from a holding area. The alley is not too short like some places. The stalls are nice and covered. Warm up pen is covered. There is plenty parking and nearby hotels and restaurants. Like most places these days, be cautious where you go at night but the arena and fairgrounds are safe. The concession stand at the arena has GOOD food. Not your typical hot dog and nachos. LOL.

I printed the entry form at seniorworld.webs.com today. Looks like qualifiers are Thursday and Friday (long goes), short go is Saturday, and an open (all ages) 4D is Sunday. I've never been, but it's been on my bucket list since I turned 50, four years ago. Have not heard anything but good about this race! Have several friends that went last year.
Will crossing the state line require any more than a current coggins?
Do any of you know if this facility has showers? I plan to wing it and sleep in my dressing room

I would like this 1000 times if I could. That’s the same boat I’m in. It’s very hard for school teachers to take off two days to do anything. Much less a barrel race.

I hear you on the teaching, Cancan! After 33 years, I retired this year. Happy to say I'm going to start doing these things I've never been able to do.

I retired in 2003. Can't have the horses I have on teacher retirement. I had to laugh last year when the two ladies sitting in front of me were saying they were 57. I have them way beat! I don't ride that horse anyway. I stick with the paint.

They do check coggins and I think health papers when you pull in. I would definitely have a health certificate to be on the safe side. I don't recall seeing any showers there.

There are showers. They are on a hallway that is not marked, but is very close to the office area. Please double check on the health papers requirement for Arkansas and this race. I went in there last year to a run and only needed a Coggins.

You are always supposed to have a health certificate when crossing state lines. You may not get checked but you should have them just in case

Great to see all the good reviews.  I have my health certificate appointment lined up already.  My friend and I are looking forward to it.

there are showers at that arena. You must have a current coggins or you do not get in.

I have been there twice.  Wonderful race, very well ran. And yes 2 short goes and a finals.  Really good arena and dirt. Lots of time for warm ups if you want them. Stalls and parking are also good.  And yes, coggins and health papers are a must they will insist on them when you pull in to the facility.  Very tough competition, but exciting it is as tough as any other barrel race you would be running down south.  Good Luck!
