For those who have been asking, after two years of work and testing, the first shipments of Renew Gold Senior will be shipping this Friday. You can figure two weeks after that for it to begin reaching independent feed stores. This will not be in most TSC until later in the year, though some will get it sooner. The category for this is a little different, being for very active senior horses and extreme use performance horses of all ages. This is not a Renew Gold replacement for most of our customers, but a product for the road warrior horses that live with unusual stress. More info to follow.

Yes, there will be a page on the web site by the end of the week. We have mostly kept the details under wraps until ready, but it is good to go. Along with Food grade Stabilized Rice Bran and Coconut, there is Pea protein, joint support, increased lysine, extruded instead of pelleted, Toxin binder and more.

This is exciting news!  I think my horses will stick to the original formula.  So glad there will be another choice available.

Can't wait to read about it! I have a gelding who fits in the category that you described. He's done well on RG in the past, although currently not on it.

You are right. The Renew Gold Senior is not intended to replace our original formula, but is designed to be used in horses that have specific needs. While it seems like an unusual category, very active senior horses and extreme use performance horses have similar issues and needs that many horses do not have to deal with. We have fed 27 tons of Senior into horses in it's intended category with literally 100% positive response. That said, it is not for everyone, but, if you have a mature true "road warrior" there can be some advantages.

I cant wait to try it on my 18yr old! I hope my Tractor Supply gets it sooner rather than later. He is Currently on 3lbs of Renew gold a day plus 1/2 cup of coconut/soybean oil, alfalfa pellets, free choice hay and pasture. Im interested to see the difference compared to the original formula and am hoping I can reduce his intake.

To WW, why wouldn’t you want to feed this to a younger horse?

What constitutes your "Senior" and "road warrior"??

I have a 24yo gelding that is still going strong.  We are April-Nov weekend warriors for the most part, 2-ish runs a weekend depending on the show.  Once in awhile we'll go on a weeknight.   So would this be something for him??  Or is this more for 16 yo  that run 5-6 times a week?

Congratulations on getting to market. I have at least 1 that I may want to try this on once I have read the data sheet when available. Thanks for the update.

Also curious about the demographic that the Senior formula fits... my kids run teeanage horses.  None have issues and all are easy to keep with hay and RG.

We have fed this to all ages in our testing. For younger horses I feel that some joint support may allow them to avoid some joint related problems later in life. For horses that are doing great on Renew Gold, I would not change them. However, many five, six and seven year olds that are under very hard use can benefit from quicker recovery time after running. Having better uptake of protein provides the building blocks for tissue repair and recovery. This also is of value to horses that have an ineficency in processing their diet. This can be from stress in the case of younger horses, or age related. In this way, both with regard to joint or digestive issues, a seven year old performance horse and an active twenty something horse can both benefit from the same types of support.

For a definition of Senior Performance horses, I think a horse that is still being used for work or competition regularly in it's early 20's and onward would qualify as a Senior Performance Horse.
As to "road warrior". I use that term for a horse that is hauled for long hours of work or competition more than four times per week.
The stress of hauling effects many horses to a degree that a lot of people don't realize. The extra stress that hauling adds can alter how well a horses digestive system functions compared to a horse that is ridden the same amount of time at home. Grain based feeds can magnify the stress and loss of digestive efficiency by altering both the ph of the hind gut which negitavly effects the proper digestion of the roughage part of the diet and causes spikes in the blood sugar levels.

It would depend on why he is a hard keeper. We fix a lot of those with original Renew Gold. In a situation like that, it is best to give me a call to talk about that specific horse. The number is 530-934-9300 on west coast business hours.

If I remember correctly, you are in CA. The Senior will be available in independent feed stores that carry Renew Gold now before TSC will get it. The first truckload is shipping today.
