We are considering breeding a Metallic Cat daughter to A Streak Of Fling. I would love some input on this cross from others. Personally I love the idea but curious what fellow barrel racers have to say. If a stud worthy of staying a stud we will go that route. Is this cross something you would breed to?

What's the mares bottom side?

Agree, it would depend on the mares bottom side. Plus her conformation and mentality. My Metallic Cat was high strung and quirky, and I wouldn't have wanted to cross that on ASOF.

Are you breeding to resale or are you breeding to keep?

Your asking if this cross is stud worthy, so if you get a stud colt you will stand it to the public, right? And wanting to know if others will breed to your stallion out of this cross?

Mare is out of a playgun daughter. Some reined cowhorse earnings. She will be shown in the heading and barrels this year. She is a nice mare.

Well I don't know of any people that have made this exact cross or if anyone has had any success with Metallic Cat on the mare side.

But Elizabeth Lund (correct if I am wrong but bc i so don't remember if she was the agent or buyer) had two Metallic Cat embryos out of a daughter of Firewater Flit that sold for 20k each at one of those triangle sales. I so don't remember which one.

The above is the only time I've ever heard of someone trying to market Metallic Cat breeding in the barrel scene.

Well I guess that is subject to opinion. In my opinion she is nice enough to spend a $5500 breeding fee on. She has proper conformation, good feet and bone, and a nice mind. I know I like the metallic cats and so do the ropers, just curious how the barrel racers feel about the cross and if its something they would be interested in breeding to if the cross produces a worthy stud prospect.

Lindsey has two out of Martha and there might be 3.

Also other top gals have them too.

Amy Schmitke has had huge success on hers.

I don't keep up with most rodeo horses.

Didn't know Amy had a Metallic Cat. Anyone have the pedigree?

Metallic Cat himself is known to be a dead head, which is why a lot of people are crossing dual rey mares on him,   I agree, depends on the MC mares bottom side.  Could be fun tho, and would most likely have awesome color!   I'd love to take an MC daughter and cross to PYC, by thats just me!

If she's out of a Playgun daughter than I would do something pure run on top.  Playgun is known to throw quiet, easy going horses too...that crossed with MC and you won't have a ton of quick, unless you know the mare is already really talented and quick footed with some motor.

I'm interested in seeing MC in the barrel pen... I believe FT has a filly out of MC X Babyflo.... I have been curious how MC would cross on mares with running bloodlines.
