| I need opinions. My girls are 4 and I am finally buying their first saddles, but I am stressing and researching more when deciding on their saddles than I do for myself lol. They are just starting to ride so I need something that isn't going to position them wrong but I need something very cheap since they will just be taking it slow and light for a long time. I came across a Double T youth barrel saddle it is 10" and semi-quarter horse bars (they will be riding my retired barrel horse so standard quarter horse size). Please give me the good, bad, and ugly about this brand of saddle. If I had my dream, they would be getting a Corriente, but unfortunately that's not in the budget right now. Location: Texas | My opinion is no no no no on double T... I had one for my kids and it threw them fwd really bad and it sits horrible on horses. Again that's my opinion, worst saddles ever.

| That's exactly what I was afraid of so thank you!!!! I am trying so hard to talk myself into springing for a Corriente, but I am curious if there are any other cheaper brands out there in 10" that will seat them correctly and fit horses properly (I am starting to think not and that it is a "you get what you pay for" kind of thing) |

Location: Texas | If you search hard enough on facebook for sale sites you can come across a Corriente or Billy cook youth saddle for about 250-300. Buy them and oil them real well. you will be much happier. |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | I got a Double S cheapo from sstack . com and do not regret it. My daughter, like me, is very tall and very skinny so I had to fight between way too big but longer lasting or cheap and well fitting with a quick resale once out grown. I was 100 ft tall at 10 so I will buy her a good saddle then if she continues to enjoy riding and putting forth the effort. |

Location: Louisiana | I don't think you'd regret spending a little extra for a Corriente. If you search FB, you may even be able to find a used one for less. I know friends who have the youth saddles and the kids outgrew them long before they were worn out.
I would think the Corriente you could easily resell when they outgrow it. The Double T you wouldn't get anything for after it's been used a couple years.
My thinking is you'd spend $250 on the Double T and recoup nothing.
$500 towards a Corriente and you could probably resell for $200-350 depending on how you take care of it.

| You could also get a 12-13” and use a seat shrinker, I think it’s a little easier to invest in quality when you know they can ride it for several years as they grow, and also those are sizes that are easier to find used.
This looks like the one we have for my niece, it’s pricey but I’ve seen cheaper ones https://www.bigdweb.com/product/seat+shrinker+leather.do
Maybe buy the shrinker first and try it on a few saddles to see what size works best. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | please for the love of your horse STAY AWAY from double T's. They are the junkiest saddle made. i stupidly had one when i was younger and good lord do i regret ever getting it. I couldnt even resell it. i Just threw it in the garbage, where it belongs!!! |

| Thank you all so much for the advice. I have been offered a used 10" Corriente roping saddle for $200 so I am snatching that up. As many have said, they are built on the same (or extremely similar) trees as the Corriente barrel saddles. My girls are just walking around and gaining confidence and balance right now so it will be perfect for them. So glad I asked here before spending the money on any other brand.  |
