Location: Missouri | Changing my horse over to a grain free diet. I'm looking at a fat source I can add a vitamin/mineral supplement to. Is there much difference between max e glo and renew gold? Which do you feed and prefer? Does one have an advantage over the other? I have access to both here for about the same price, only difference is the Max e Glo comes in a 40 lb bag instead of renew gold 30 lb. Thanks!! |

Location: The Great Northwest | I have a suggestion since you are making a move to a grain free diet. Have you heard about the Hemp products? Hemp oil is the best oil for horses and all animals it has the best omega ratio and a secret weapon to decrease inflammation plus the fat that doesn't give those highs but a even temperment. The Hemp meal is excellent for protein providing all 10 essential Amino Acids that horses need to build muscle and recover from training, hauling and races. And more Amazing is that horses, dogs all animals love it! To learn more go to Facebook and to North American Hemp Products. |

As the person who developed both products, I can offer a little information. Stabilized Rice Bran is a great direct grain replacement. It offers greater energy in a safer, more compact package that fits the digestive system better. Renew Gold is very different. The goal here is whole system efficiency from the mouth back. This includes better nutrient uptake, reduced bacterial induced inflammation, and a prebiotic to help normalize the hind gut for more effective use of the forage part of the diet. Both provide benefits in their own right, but they function in very different ways. |

That has probiotics,Is that a better option then either of these?

I use the rice bran. Why? Because it is very hard for me to get Renew Gold consistently at our TSC and Win told me it was the next best thing. We feed 1/3 lb oats, rice bran and free fed alfalfa. |

Probiotics vs prebiotic is a whole different issue, and worth talking about. The coconut in Renew Gold does a number of very unique functions in the horses body. Flax improves the omega 3 to Omega 6 level. So, there are a number of differences in function with food grade coconut making them uniquely possible. |

The Empower boost has both pro and pre. I was looking for a chance in this reguard as well and I was actually looking at these 3 supplements to top dress some alfalfa cubes, but wanting all the vit and minerals in it so I don't have to supplement those as well.

Probiotics contain live micro organisms that inhabit the gut, PRE-biotics are just food for those live bacteria that already live there. Forco is a PRE biotic. THe problem with most PRO biotics out there, are that they are not equine specific. Forefront and a couple others actually use EQUINE probiotics. The problem you face with daily fed probiotics is that they can upset the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut. A healthy horse naturally keeps a good balance of these from proper forage and nutrition. If you feed live probiotics daily then you are more likely to upset this balance. The only time I use PRO biotics is after worming, vaccinations, and antibiotic use. Mine all get FORCO every day to feed the good bacteria in the gut and reduce GI stress. |

Location: Illinois | I have no experience with Renew Gold, but I have used both the Max E Glo bran (both the meal & pellet) and the Empower Boost. I had much better results with the Boost. We used it for weight gain and for a couple older horses. Filled in & rounded a 32 year old arab's back in no time. She eats Fuel now, which has the Boost in it. For my 25 year old I just added a cup to each feeding and he filled out nicely. I really liked it, but it was hit and miss on being able to get it at my feed store. They were out of it a lot and the local farm supply store never has any with a date on it within a year, its always old. So I switched to Envision from Progressive since I can always get it & I've been just as happy with that too. But I definitely recommend the Boost, it made a difference on all the horses we were feeding it to & some are still on it (I board, others buy their own). |

Location: Texas | I just started a test: two horses on 3/4 lb Renew Gold + 1/2 lb whole oats twice per day and the other two on 3/4 lb Max-E Glo + 1/2 lb whole oats twice per day. Interested in seeing if I notice a difference. Ends up being .30/day difference per horse. Just started this so no conclusions yet. |

I feed a mineral, alfalfa pellets, alfalfa hay, peanut hay and have used both products mentioned in your title. I honestly never saw a difference in my horses with using either product. Gonna give rice bran oil a try now.
My guess is either would meet your needs.

So now you know you've gotta come back in so many weeks to let us know the outcome of your experiment, right?! Seriously interested in what you find out. |

If your hay quality is good, you should be able to leave the oats out. |

I think that every horse is different. and may not do well with a certain regime even tho same horse in the same pasture does well on it. Just a thought and personal experience. ;)) |

Location: Texas | I will try to remember to come back and post results. Right now my horses are needing the oats with the rice bran. 1/2 lb whole oats amounts to a coffee cup, which is not a lot. But I will probably be able to back them off the oats soon now that the grasses are starting to come back. As someone mentioned earlier, each horse is different and I adjust as they need it.
