I NEED a different saddle, and there is no place around me to try saddles. Teskey's won't get back to me regarding what they have for new/used saddles I could try. The last time I talked to Jeff he said I should try a 6.5 in gullet. horsetackworld.com does not offer returns, only exchanges.
Any other places that would offer returns? Used would be great! How do I even start eliminating certain brands, or looking for certain brands when I don't know how they fit?

Ask as many friends and people you know at the barrel race if you can try on their saddle. Or if you attend a larger barrel race, sometimes they have vendors set up with saddles.

At least if you can find what fits your horse, then you can begin looking for a used one.

SmartPak has a saddle trial program on a handful of barrel saddles.

I’ve worked with horsesaddleshop.com in the past. Once in a while they run a promo where there is no restocking fee. Of course, usually dealing with new saddles here.

I have no friends around here. The barn I board at, no one barrel races. I liked one saddle on Smarkpak but out of my price range.

I don’t remember all the sights but I bought and returned 4 saddles  trying  to fit my horse.  If you know what saddle you are wanting to try, google who sales it and go from there.   I had no problems with any of the returns but all were returned within a few days of receiving it.  Teskey’s has always been great anytime I dealt with them, their website is usually up to date with what they have in stock.

Makes plans to head to a bigger race and ask on the FB event page if anyone has the saddles you’d like to try ahead of time so you can coordinate. Most of us have been through this. I’ve been on both sides of that, with complete strangers, and been very grateful - I also now know more people in the area and that’s cool too.

If by Jeff you mean Jeff Smith I have one of his 6.5” gullets and it fits both my wider cow horses great with a 1/2” 5 Star. The amount of flare and bar spread he’s worked into his trees is fantastic. He made his name I believe in cutting saddles, so he knows how to fit a thicker horse if the 6.5” Gullet is putting you off there.

Have you called Teskeys or just emailed? We’ve called several times over the years and they’ve been great, even walking down the used racks while on the phone looking for saddles. What they have listed online for used doesn’t touch what they have in the store based on when we were there in Feb.

Not sure what your budget is, but Larry Coats is great to work with. He has used Coats saddles as well as new. He will work with you to get the right fit. Send him pictures of your horse. He will even send you trees to try.

She has a used standard Pozzi, but doesn't offer returns only exchanges, so if it doesn't fit and she doesn't have anything else I'm stuck with it.

That's my problem, I don't know what brand to look at..the saddle I have now is a circle y barrel saddle with a 7 in gullet. I called the company and it's considered wide. It sits right on top of his withers even though I am shimming it too.

try JHA. They are awesome to work with! they are normally at the bigger barrel races i go to here in Ohio and they have always been VERY helpful. Fit my horse and even let me run a couple exhibitions in saddles to make sure we both liked them. They offer new and used!  Not sure of their website but its either JHA, or Just Horsin Around tack. Good luck

They do, but they don’t really deal in them. When I was working with Judy to order my C3 she said they have a wholesale agreement on their trade ins and someone comes by and picks them up every week or 10 days. We were looking for a used roper at the time and she sent me a couple they happened to have - but we had to make a move, she didn’t know if the wholesaler was coming tomorrow or next week. Their business is in dealing new saddles and offering trade ins as a service to customers purchasing new saddles, not dealing in used saddles. If you know what you’re looking for call the store and ask Judy what they have at the moment.

Coats Lazy L's run around 2k. You can find used ones in your price range. He could help you with what tree you need and then you could find a used one... FB has a Used Coats saddle page.

I know most saddle makers sell according  to the gullet size but the angle of the bars is just as important if not more.  $1800 should buy you a nice quality used saddle. Stagecoach West is in Irving New York, might be time for a road trip and let them fit him.
