Got a new breast collar and can't figure out how to attach my keeper to it. It has the metal piece in the middle and no ring just below it to attach to. I've pretty much always had a keeper, but just wondering if going without was a viable option since I either need to rig one up or sadly return this breast collar.

Can you run your tiedown behind the breastcollar so the breastcollar itself keeps it up?

Never done it personally but could try and see how that works. I'm so spoiled to my keeper I didn't know what to do now and didn't think about it when I purchased this one.

Always use a keeper, get a piece of leather string or bailing string and tie onto your breast collar in a loop and run your tie down threw it.

That's what I did in high school. Forgot about the leather string. I think I had bought a bag of those scrap leather pieces at Tractor Supply for it. You barely saw it.

I buy these bags of peices of leather too and they are super handy to have around, you never know when you need a peice of leather string, I always have a need for these bags, lol..

Do all Tractor Supply have the leather scraps? I could actually use some for some other things too

For a long time I just used a spare rubber band like the ones I use for my feet when I run and would just replace it before I ran but one time I forgot to replace it and it popped while I rode and my mare did not appreciate it so I switched to a braided one from The Rein Man here in TX and have used it for about 3-4 years.

I'm not sure. I use little pieces of leather sometimes to lenghten the connection piece between my front cinch and back cinch also.

Can you run your tiedown behind the breastcollar so the breastcollar itself keeps it up?

That's what I was going to suggest. It may not stay 100% perfectly centered the entire time, but it's definitely doable so you don't have to return your breastcollar.

All you need is a zip tie!  Put that through the ring and attach. Tie down can go down through zip tie.

My keeper broke at a show. I made do with a piece of the thicker cotton string. I said I would get a new keeper but 4 years later still rocking the string. I have seen people run it behind their breastcollar but I’ve never been sure how safe that was. Looks like it would pull it tighter than intended.

I run mine behind my breast collar. Never had a problem.

Whenever I did use a keeper it was just leather or shoe string.

If you are going to a rodeo with breakaway roping, steal a piece of breakaway string off the fence. Works great and its free! :)

I use a zip tie. Ugly but effective. I have also used ropers' horn wrap but that's even uglier. If you just tuck it behind the breastcollar, that can sometimes restrict a horse's movement.

I punched a hole high up on the piece that goes down between their front legs and tied a shoelace through it as a keeper. I can run my training fork through it too.

Braid yourself a keeper and attach to the center ring. You can keep your breast collar.
