Location: North Dakota | I've noticed my horse licking/biting any metal he can get his mouth on. He also has been going after the dusty mounting block (once its clean he's not interested) and I have caught him eating poo once. He's quite bloated, a little overweight too. His hooves are just awful, have been his whole life and nothing seems to help. He's fairly shiny but never seems to "bloom" like some horses. I'm wondering if he's not deficient in something. He eats mostly just hay/grass. He gets a small scoop of whole oats, Forco (started a couple weeks ago), and I'm switching him over to Omega Horseshine instead of his old hoof supplement. I was considering either getting a supplement to add to his feed, but don't want to overdose him. So then I considered just offering him a tub of loose minerals while I'm there a the barn with him. I can't put minerals out in his pasture because he is boarded with about 20 other horses on 24/7 turnout and I'm not paying for all of them to eat it (nor would I ever feed other peoples' horses anything without their knowledge).
What are some good brands that have natural minerals/nutrients that I can offer him? I'm not interested in any salt licks (they do have plain salt licks in their pasture) just minerals. |

| When you say hay, are you including alfalfa? Kind of sounds like he is missing some amino acids in his diet. |

| Have you seen or heard about Euininety? I don't use it but seems lots are having great results with it. I just started Platinum performance GI. It has all the nutrients they need PLUS takes care of what FORCO provides all in one. I was a long time forco user and its awesome, but I feed one scoop a day of ONE product and thats much easier for me. I have also used 707 daily essentials. Its very economical and gives a horse everything they need in one scoop for a very low price. SOmething like 17.00/month. Its an alfalfa based pellet that horses readily eat. Hope that helps! |

| For a tub I really liked the Equilix Mineral tubs. I also really like the Performance Microbials as a daily supplement. |

| I use Manna Pro Sho-Glo. It's pelleted. You just add a scoop to their feed. It's inexpensive and has worked well for me. |

No, they just get some sort of mix of grass hay. I have no control over that because it's supplied by the barn over the winter. Once the grass grows in, they get no supplemental hay. The best I could do on alfalfa is mixing a small amount of alfalfa pellets into his grain when I'm there. I am strongly leaning towards a loose mineral that he can just have free choice of, since there are days that I can't get to the barn, if he needs a bit more one day, and a bit less the other, he can replenish himself as his body needs.
I don't have a big budget either. Hubby needs a new vehicle and I can only budget so much towards the horse. His board and farrier went up in price a few months ago, so that's taken a chunk out of it. Platinum Performance and the like are way out of the question.

I really like this product too. I did get an email recently saying the company owners had gone their separate ways and that the original formula would be produced under a different name. |

Tri Amino is 29.95 for a 32-64 day supply. You might find it cheaper. I just looked on their website. Its made by Uckele. I am going to order some because my horse's feet have a crack at the toe that will not go away and he could use a little more on his topline. I feed some alfalfa cubes, but alfalfa doesn't have all the amino acids that a horse requires, so I am going to try this myself. I don't know if this helps you at all, but thought I might just mention it.
I just wanted to let you know I went to Stateline Tack and got it for 18.71 before shipping was added.

The original name was Thunder Mountain Minerals; the lady who originally owned it took on a partner but that didnβt work out. As I understand it, SHE owns the mountain where the minerals come from and is very knowledgeable about horses, especially QH bloodlines. The (new) name of her company is Thunder Mountain Equine.
Edited to add that itβs my impression HE is the one on βvacation.β

| WORM HIM 3 MONTHS IN A ROW WITH IVERVECTIN ...
then start on a 60 day program ...
Make sure he is getting at least 6-8 lbs of 14% equivalent feed per day ..
and throw 1-2 handfuls of GroStrong minerals in his feed every chance you get
and a block of alfalfa ...
FYI:
Whole oats and alfalfa is the best feeding program = 14% protein
along with GroStrong minerals (25 lbs /$33) ... and is also the least expensive feeding
program you can do...

Platinum Performance (the regular) ends up being less than $1 per day. The initial cost seems high but in actual use is is not. I feed my performance horse one scoop a day. A 17.5 pound container last about 3 months. |

It's subtle changes, but they're all a little bit shinier, and even with several days of rain over the weekend I noticed no new spots of rain rot...I was fighting it on 3 or 4 of them constantly for a while. I truly think the mineral helped with their skin condition in the month they've been on it. |
