| Last night we went to a local jackpot. I was waiting for my turn to run when this gentleman lead this poor , malnourished horse (at least in my opinion), with blood coming out of his nostrils, covered in sweat, boots still on etc, trying to look for the owner of the horse. The owner finally was found, she did not show much concern for the poor horse. She went about her business as nothing was wrong. A few minutes later, she was in the holding pen and tried to run the horse, to say the least they had a not so good run. After their run, she took him to the warm up pen and worked him some more.
It is not my place to judge, I don't know this lady at all, I don't know the history of the horse, but the first impression that I got wasn't very positive at all. But any how, if your horse is bleeding.... can you still run him? if so, even though I don't admire this lady's horsemanship at all, it will ease my mind a bit. (sorry, I don't know much about bleeders or how to deal with them)
ok yeah, I guess I am judging a bit, sorry, but this horse looked indeed pitiful and it broke my heart :( |

| About the only thing you could have done here was talk to the producers of the race to see if they would refuse to let her run. That only would have happened if they have a rule about abuse (to run a bleeder while bleeding is abuse IMO).
Otherwise, there isn't much you can do about stupid people. |

| I would simply call 911 on my cell phone and tell them you witnessed severe animal cruelty!!!! In the mean time I would take videos for evidence, and probably " Accidentally" walk by and grab them by the shirt and jerk them off the horse and put my boot on their head on the ground until the cops got there. |

| he could have broken loose and hurt both sides of his nose, I wasn't sure. I asked the owner if he was a bleeder and she mumble something and walked off ... that's why I did not say anything :( |

well, take some comfort in the fact that you said something to her. It kinda sounds like she knew she was wrong, by the mumbling part. Maybe by you speaking up, she will think twice next time. |

Some people just dont have a clue, I may have said something to the producer or maybe not, just dont know.. If I were there I may have had a talk with this lady to ask her if she knew that her horse was a bleeder and see what how it went from there..So sad for the horse |

| ^. This. I don’t know why people who treat animals like that even own them. I was setting barrels this weekend when a horse fell turning the second. She was pretty overweight, not a balanced rider and when he stumbled he tried his best to get up but he just could not with her hanging on the side-down they went but he did everything he could not to step on her and just stood there. She got up saying I hate this MFing horse and reached up too snatch on him and hit him. I grabbed the reins and said I will walk him out while you cool off. I told her he tried his best to take care of her to please show him so love. I hope she did, I know she was embarrassed. |

I have seem plenty of what you saw last night Nancy just so sad how these animals are treated even after the fact that they try their best not to hurt their riders. Thats why I cant sell anything any more to someone I dont know.. Glad you did what you did by taking the reins of that horse..Some people just make me want to puke.. |

In my opinion this was an excellent way to handle these sticky situations. Great job Nancy! |

Location: Arizona | Man, that would have been tough not to say anything to her. I am not one to keep my mouth shut, especially if I see someone abusing their animals. I don't care..I will say something. I would have said something to her if we were both in the holding pen. I guess that's just me though. The horses lungs would have been filled with blood, he would have coughed a lot during his run or for sure after....I believe this is what happens with bleeders. Poor horse. |

| the reason why I did not say much more to her is that I wasn't 100% sure he is a bleeder. The guy that brought him up was leading him by the halter only so I am not sure if he got loose and hurt his nose making him bleed from both nostrils or if he is indeed a bleeder. Regardless, you guys should have seen this poor guy.... he was trench in sweat, with his splint boots still on, breathing hard, just miserable :( .... I don't know, it just felt so wrong!!! and still does!!! |

| You can give benefit of the doubt on the " He got loose and hurt his nose" but as soon as someone got back on and was going to go MAKE A RUN, that would be it for me. Doesn't matter if she hurt him, he is a bleeder, or if he hurt himself, you DO NOT run a horse under any of those circumstances. |

I would still talk to the producer of the barrel race and let them know what you witnessed. They may have a no abuse policy. All the ones out here do. lol |
