I see this too alot on horses for sale ads and always wondered this myself, its like trying to hide their identity for some reason and when they are showing the horses papers and have their name covered up by a piece of paper,,lol but if you look under the contact owner, boom their name shows up there. ha ha ha |

what is someone going to do with a license plate number? It's not like the old days when they had you put your ss# on your trailers. lol |

Location: Illinois | Sometimes people will do that if there's someone else riding the horse besides the owner, like if you had someone jockey it or a friend run it or whatever and just wanted to protect their privacy on the ad. I could see doing that in those cases just out of respect. Or sometimes people just don't want their face on there in case people start passing it around, like people who have no interest in the horse but just want to gossip. Or to keep their photo from getting stolen by someone and used for something else. |

| I see it most frequently in ads with kids as on the horse. I guess I donβt see the harm in it with that, thereβs some real freaks out there. You can feel like you can lock down your own FB profile to only who you want to see stuff, but you canβt really control whoβs in groups viewing stuff. |

not everyone is from the selfie generation. many old timers see selfies as the equivalent of never passing a mirror. I have not one pic of me on my facebook. I use it to know where the activities are. |

Location: Somewhere around here | My friend, who's just 27 this year, is pretty paranoid about stuff like that. She doesn't upload many pictures on Facebook and I think that's the only social page she has. She doesn't trust Google photos, or anything picture app, but she's just that way. Some people are just not a fan of putting their face online. |

Many people cover up the name on the papers because it's someone else's horse and they don't want you contacting that person and screwing up their hustle. |

I just go to AQHA and look up the horses name when I like the looks of the horse to see who really owns it.. And sometime just being curious when I do see a name covered up I look up the horse to see who the mystery owner.. I know other people will post other peoples horses for sale but I want to know who owns the horse if interested.. |

Also, a lot of horses off the track have already changed hands a few times with no changes at all in owner. They don't want you contacting the original owner who might say "Oh yeah we sold it a year ago after 3 starts because we couldn't get it to stop bleeding or stay sound. Sold it to some match racers." Then someone picked it up for about $1500 and is trying to flip the horse and sell for $5k as an OTT horse. Happens a lot. Always check equibase to see last outs, trainer, etc.... Gives you clues as to whats really going on. |

| I cover faces on sale ads if it's my step-kids riding. I also don't put any pictures of them on Facebook or any other social media, and I'm not planning on putting pics of my baby on social media when he's born. It's a habit I got into with my step-kids due to (many) issues with their mom and not wanting her to have that window into my life as well, since we do have friends that overlap on social media. She's intrusive enough without putting my whole life on display for her or her friends to pick through. Also, I'm pretty private most of the time anyways and so it's easier for me to keep things off of social media anyways. |
