Looking into wireless dog fences, looking for best brands and what are some issues to watch out for?

Also, do they work with metal houses/siding?

We use the Petsafe wireless fence system. Works really well and have never had an issue with metal. We used it on our malamute, I had to shave his neck because he had so much hair but once he got shocked a couple times, the beep that it makes would stop him. My father in-law and mother in-law(their divorced) both use it for their houses. Once you have the box all you have to buy is the collars and theirs not a limit on how many at one time.

My mom has the PetSafe for their large dog...it works as long as he has fresh batteries, the second they get weak, he's testing it and roaming the neighborhood.

We're gonna have to get one when Allie is cleared to go outside again, so I'm following this!

We use to have one for our Rat Terrier, it worked pretty good but there were times he just felt the need to roam. I would hear him preparing for the great escape-he would start whining and yapping then takeoff running across the fence. He would then sit and bark for me to come take his collar off to come back home - he was a funny dog. I don’t remember what brand it was.

Used the petsafe one on my pyrenees cross. Worked as long as the land was flat. She'd test it. She'd roam when she thought I wasn't looking or when I was gone, then plant herself back in the boundaries when I returned. Batteries don't last very long, have some on hand. We moved and now have large grain bins near the house, signal only works on about half of the circle then cuts out - useless now.

We have one for my dad's Lab/pit cross. Biggest thing has been just making sure we keep good batteries in it. Has worked very well for him.

We tried a couple of different models with our Wheaten terrier: One was a PetSafe bought at Cabela's, and the other one was a more expensive brand I can't remember the name of. You HAVE to go to the work to walk your dog around the boundary and teach him where he he's going to get shocked if he crosses. That being said, we never had the best of luck with ours... Like others have said, the batteries run out fairly quickly and the dogs know when it happens. My dog figured out if it wasn't beeping at him, it wasn't working and off he'd go. There were also a few times he just flat out got excited and ran through it yelping the whole way.
