| My mare has a hole in both suspensorys. I have never dealt with this kind of injury and was wondering what everyone’s experiences were and what you do for treatment??? Thank you in advance! |

| My gelding had a tear in a rear suspensory, not sure if a whole is the same type of injury? Is it from being hurt or a degenerative type of issue? I treated him with PRP, sweated with runners relief, he was out a year, came back 100% |

Location: Claremore, OK | I rehab at least 2 per year. Stall rest is a must (30-60 days, at least).
PRP has improved healing greatly. Laser treatments are great if you can do it. Mag wraps are also very helpful .
Proper/therapeutic shoeing, especially if it’s on the front end.
The body quits the healing process after 8 weeks so you need to keep up with laser or mad therapy until the lesion is completely healed.
Do a monthly ultrasound to check and measure healing progress. |

| It’s an injury from putting extra stress on them due to a neurological issue. It’s both hind legs. She is going to be in stall rest for at least 6 months and will probably not run again ever just be a brood mare

She is going to be in stall rest for at least 6 months and will probably not run again ever just be a brood mare So sorry, my guy was given less than a 19% chance of being sound, much less running barrels and he came back to run fir another 5 years. As already mentioned, PRP helps and any therapy that helps get good increased blood flow and oxygen to the area. I was diligent about sweating and icing and hand walking several times a day. After a couple of months I did not keep mine stalled as prescribed by the vet but every check up showed great healing.

| How often did you sweat and ice? Just for regular maintenance I usually ice once a day and sweat once a week but I don’t know how often to do it on an injury! |

| I did a runners relief sweat every night for 3 months-left it on all night-6 nights a week. I used the cheapest diapers I could find and an ace elastic bandage till it wore out-very easy. I put a glob of the RR inn the diaper, smeared it on, wrapped the diaper with the bandage. I iced a couple of times during the day. |

Total turnout and 12-18 months, healed perfect. This was on a large tear, rear leg suspensory. I've had friends do the same thing, all 3 horses back running at the top of their game. No stall rest, immediate turnout. This was recommended to me by a race track vet.

Folks on-line
