| I have never even considered a pre race energy booster or if they even work. Only reason I am asking, is because I am making my first trip to the Pendleton barrel race next month in Oregon. ( THe one with huge pattern and something like 300 foot between each barrel) and its a 1300 mile drive from where I live. LOL Its on my bucket list so just need to do it. The horse I am running is pretty laid back anyway so figured it might be a good thing after 2 days hauling then a huge pattern to give him something to help with his energy level on race day. I would rather not feed something daily then just stop it, so looking for pre race energy boost. There is a lot out there and I have no idea what, if any, work. Thanks! |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Have them fit for the Belmont. best race energy booster there is . Good luck and have fun! I say that as a former runner and have literally run that pattern on foot. It hurts. It hurts the lungs, the legs, the arms. Just plan hurts. I had been running 3-5 miles a day and we also did 10-30 second sprints at 9mph+ on the treadmill about 3 days a week on top of that and it still made me want to puke about the 2nd barrel. That is what I kept in mind as I got mine ready for the race up there in 2012 and 13. It is the funnest thing you'll ever do on horseback!

^^^I would agree.
I would focus more on a respiratory aid versus an energy booster, IMO.
I think EquiPulmin would be a great benefit. You can DM me with any questions. |

Agree.
I do use OxyBoost Plus pre race. He seems more on his toes - or maybe Iβm just embracing the crazy instead of trying to keep him calm. Itβs cheap, so even if it is a placebo, itβs worth it to me since weβre right in there cashing checks.
I would also consider elevation changes and the effect that will have on them. |

Elevation in Pendleton is 1400' about sea level. THats actually lower than my house. SO non issue there! My vet already gives me a compounded syrup for lungs/breathing so I will just stick with that! Thanks all! |

I think this is truly the key for Pendleton. My close friend and I were just talking about this the other day. The year she won the Roundup, she was able to lope up a 1 1/2 or 2 mile long hill non-stop. Also, there was a FB post floating around last year, that Cheyenne Allan and Teri Bangart prepared for the Roundup by trotting a 10 mile round-trip, up and down course. Both had excellent runs. |

The first year I went that was my intentions also, I had dreamed of running there since I was 9 and figured out that the "Camp" Pendleton rodeo was NOT the Pendleton Round UP, LOL!!! I was so nervous the first year I literally hand walked my horse into the arena, I was afraid I'd pass out and fall off, LOL!!! Everyone is super supportive, the place is Ahh-mazing, and the town is very laid back and welcoming. I never wanted to come home. Wish I was going this year, you'd have a BB screaming for you from the stands!!!

LOL The horse I'm running is a barrel hunter for sure. I will do my time only the day before and just have fun with it. LOL and two days later I'm running at a race in WA that is a 13 second pattern. Talk about polar opposite. |

Location: Southern Indiana | Wouldn't a lower energy be better? I mean its distance, not a sprint like a typical barrel race. The high energy horse may run his race before he gets to the second barrel. A calmer horse that breezes through and keeps a steady pace would have energy to finish, would he not? Maybe more carbs, some b12, and a good electrolyte? I like OE Nitro or OxyBoost! |

What is this? I have a COPD horse that has to be on ventipulmon when his allergies are bad, and this sounds interesting?

Its a syrup that has natural airway openers and I think a little steroid as well. |
