What hackamores does everyone use to help a horse rate down? My gelding hates bits and they actually slow him down- he’s weird lol. I currently have been using a little s hack but he has been getting by his barrels and basically runs thru it. And no it’s not a teeth, chiro, soreness etc. issue.

Go to www.tackstop.com. It’s an online tack store. Click on bits from the left menu. Then click on hackamores. There is a wide variety listed and descriptions of what they do. Also take a look at the pozzi hacks to. I use about four different ones. The Jim warner , stevers, all great options.

Sounds like a training issue then.

I'm all about finding the headgear that the horse likes the best, but there is also an aspect of the horse listening to me no matter what. If he's running through the Little S and not listening to you, sure you could find a stronger hackamore .... but then what will you do if he starts running through that?

I'm proud that say that I could run any of my horses in a plain snaffle bit if I wanted. Am I going to? Of course not. Because that's not the headgear that works the BEST for them. But my point is that I could. They have the appropriate training that they will listen to me no matter what I choose to put on their head.

So..... that's something for you to think about.

I too agree with making sure it isn't a training issue. But some horses are just better as hackamore horses. The rider has to learn how to ride a hack too. You cant hang or hold one with them. its more of a bump and soft hands. In my experience, the 3 hacks with the most woah are the Jim warner long shank, the ladybug, and the wild child. There are lots of great hacks out there, and each has their strengths. Just like bits, its finding the one that your horse likes and that gets along with your hands.

Β All my hackamores come with help. I make several. All you have to do is askAnytime. As long as needed. No one else gives that.
