Location: Willows, CA | I get quite a few comments about TSC not having Renew Gold in stock on the shelf. Frustrating for everyone. While the problem has resolved itself in a lot of stores, I had an interesting phone conversation about the issue yesterday with some good information that I wanted to pass along. When a customer goes into the store and sees the shelf empty, then leaves without saying anything, the store does not know that they just lost a sale. No change in demand noted and no need to adjust the amount kept in inventory. In the past I have recommended that the customer do the "rain check" option that will order product and hold it just for them. At least the store knows that they have a chance to recover a sale that they otherwise would miss. The problem with this is that it is a one time deal. I was told yesterday that there is another option called "Hold Out". This is a basic monthly order that will always be there for the customer no matter what. It will go on for month to month unless the customer or store manager cancels it. It can be expanded or stopped at any time, but while in place, the RG will always be there. I had no idea about this, and it may help those who race their friends to the TSC and buy what is there before someone else does. For those who rely on TSC as their source of RG, this may help eliminate the frustration that some of the stores create. Renew Gold Bisquit Treats coming AUG 1st, as is the Renew Gold Senior to the first set of stores.

Location: Pacific Northwest | I worked at TSC for 3 years and at our store it could be hard to up the supply order on certain items. Most items are an automatic shipment. If a bag gets sold, a bag gets added to the next truck. Most items have a max quantity of what they have, for example, a store might always only keep 2 bags of RG in stock. If someone comes in and buys those 2 bags one day, the store is only going to get 2 more bags sent to them.
Our stores way around not being able to up the supply order on certain items is we would rain check extra supplies for the store. For example, we kept running out of SafeChoice Performance, and we asked multiple times to send us more but we kept running out. So we just rain checked 10 bags under one of our names, so on the next truck we got the 10 bags we were already being sent plus an extra 10 for our βrain checkβ.
For those that donβt know, you are not obligated to pay or even pick up a rain check item, should you change your mind on it. |

We have a number of stores that up order Renew Hold by the pallet. I was just given this info yesterday, so the situation may have recently changed. |

Location: W. Pa. | Tractor Supply is the worst for keeping anything in stock. When feeding horses you can't just stop feeding one type of feed and then change to another because they are out of stock. We have mentioned it to employees and they have told us it is out of their hands. That corporate decides how much to ship. My husband and I have both e mailed the company several times in regards to this with absolutely no response from them. |

I think it varies from store to store. My local tsc, I can't stand... they are always out of everything I go in for. So I started driving a tad further to a different tsc in another town, they are always well stocked and a heck of a lot more helpful and friendly! |

Not all managers will let you do that though, because there have been countless times weβve ordered something by the pallet because a customer swears they are going to buy it, and then it all sits for long that it expires.
Just a heads up in case someone tries that and they get told no lol because we stopped doing it, unless it was a regular customer that we knew would actually come and get it. |

It is out of their hands. Most items in the store, with the exception of certain feeds, are just an auto ship based on how much the store sells. If only two people are buying a bag of something, the DC is not going to send that store 20 bags of it.
Whereas you might go 30 minutes to a different store that happens to have 6 people that buy that feed, and so the DC always sends that store more bags than the other store.
You wonβt get a response from corporate cause they donβt care lol
Easiest way is to just rain check it. Rain check 3 bags at a time and they will keep it in the back, on the rain check shelf, with your name on it, and then you just buy it like normal whenever you go into the store.
I worked there for 3 years and havenβt shopped there since I quit. |

Location: N Texas | My local TSC JUST starting carrying it in the store. I know I could have ordered it before now, but I preferred to just stop at the feed store by my house to pick up a few bags as I need it. Well the other day I got three bags at my feed store, then went to TSC for a few other things and saw they actually had it in stock. SEVEN DOLLARS CHEAPER than my feed store! I wasn't too pleased and will now be buying it at TSC. I want to support my local feed store, but geeze, seven bucks a bag is a huge difference. |

That is a big different in price when you buy more then two bags at a time. I just started my one gelding on it and bought it here at the TSC but never priced it any where else yet, we have alot of locals feed stores in my area that sells it too so I will price shop, but pretty sure they will be pricey too. |

Same here! My local co-op sells it for $40 a bag but I can drive a little further in another town and get it for $32!!! Well worth the 20 minute drive for me and I just buy 3-4 bags at a time. |

Location: Where Tall Corn Grows | Another question. Why is it so much more expensive for other feed stores to purchase? We have a local feed store that can order it but it's at least $12.00 + more a bag. I drive for 1 hour 15 minutes one way to buy from a TSC at $29 a bag. You better call first because they don't always have it and it's too far to go for nothing! Anyway the feed store said their shipping on the RG is pretty high. They sell it for $42 a bag. I'd love to support my local feed store but it's a substantial savings to drive. How can the local feed stores compete? |

Location: Willows, CA | Independent feed stores decide what mark up to charge. Some charge less, some more. Two feed stores selling something in the same town usually solves the issue. The local feed store in my small town sells RG for $1 less than the local TSC does. If an independent does not order enough products from a regional distributor, they can end up paying a lot for shipping. Most distributors have an order level that gets free or at least low freight costs that allow better pricing at the cash register. Then again, some just mark up to whatever the customer will pay. Lots of different factors can be involved in setting prices. |

I was buying RG for $27.99 at TSC. I ran out and went into our local Purina feed store and they wanted $42.99! I told the manager what TSC was selling it for and she said, “Good for them!” I told her it was actually good for me. That feed store use to be busking all the time and now the parking lot is usually empty. I just heard a TSC is opening up next year in ou town. We have one good TSC in our area and the rest suck. |
