| Hi, I'm updating my resume and have a few questions.
When are things outdated to have on your resume? Like clubs and organizations I was in in college? I'm 38 so do I still include those? Or in college in summer I worked in the county extension office, that would be 18 years ago, do I include that?
Also, me and hubby have our own LLC business. I'm quite familiar with Quickbooks because of it but it seems strange to include it as a job on my resume-should I include it?
THANKS!! |

| As my work experience has grown I’ve narrowed those types of activities down to the most notable ones - leadership positions and if those are too numerous ones that might appeal the most to the particular employer. |

| When hiring experienced professionals, I don't really care what they were involved in during college. I care more about what they have experienced since then. |

| It depends on how relevant those tasks are to the job you are sending the resume for. If they point out and enhance your skills or experience, keep them. If not, you can shorten them up or get rid of them.

Keep your resume to ONE PAGE. Customize it to highlight the experience that is relative to the job you are applying for. Last time I had to fill a single receptionist position I had 40+ applications to look through. Let's just say you have 5 seconds (or less) to catch my attention or you get put into the "no" pile. So summarize and highlight key points. Use your cover letter to describe how (for example) your quickbooks experience with your LLC company is good for the job you are applying for.
In most cases, I would NOT include any college jobs as that was indeed 18 years ago. |
