I have a 6 year old mare that has a proven 1D record (world, futurity, and more). I'm in the dilemma of to breed her or keep running her. She is built and bred well. I am new to the breeding world completely so I'm curious if it could affect her talent to recover after foaling? I don't foresee having the ability to pull an embryo. I'm trying to plan ahead for next year. I have a colt that I'd like to focus on, would it be selfish to put her on the back burner for a foal?

If you breed her there is always a chance of a problem that could limit her ability to perform in the future.

Why breed her?  You already have a nice horse for the next 10-15 years.  Save up your money and do an ET in 5-10 years if you still really like her.  ET's are getting cheaper all the time.

I think I'm either looking for an excuse or reassurance, I'm not sure which. I'm not as nearly as educated in the field as I need to be to take on the endeavor as it is. I don't enter her often (mainly only larger show) and when I do I am so select. I feel like I waste time when I should be hauling her more but I fear the inevitable, that something may happen to her. I know this board is always for of breeding questions/ advice so I needed an outside point of view. I agree. Thank you!

Breeding is fun, but it is alot of work if you do it right.  Who would you breed her to and what is her pedigree?

She is a daughter of Frenchmans Bogie out of a Dash for Perks mare. She's 15.1 and APHA registered. I like the APHA incentive and FF for futurities, it gave a couple nice extra checks.

I'd like to cross her with FWOTR or something comparable. Bogie has crossed with a Ronas Ryon mare to produce Chicks Dig Bogie, Frenchmans High, and Bogies Triple Threat. My four year old is the last one out of that same cross (he had a little bit of a set back that was not his fault the start of the year but is coming on really nice, he's going to be an awesome Derby horse). I'd like to get as close as I could to something like him but I know realistically I don't know the possibility. I am completely open to suggestions for future reference.

She looks nice.  I pulled her equistat, and watched a few videos from the BFA.  I think I'd ride her a bit and get her more consistent.  She obvously has the ability, a stronger list of 1d placings would make the baby more valuable.   I really like her and the cross with FWOTR would be neat.

Absolutely. Thank you so much for the advice. I am by no means a 1D rider/ consistent myself but she's got the heart to make you think you're winning the world every run. I'm working to get there. We have fluctuated some and I've let a lot of friends enjoy her as well. She is super special in my life. I hope to be able to do her justice and eventually pass that on for her. I truly appreciate your input!

If you have a young one to season I can say from experience that it is a lot more fun to haul that colt when you can also pull your 1D horse off the trailer and run it.
