I want to talk about picky eaters.....
I have a mare that I would like to give joint support and thiamine to everyday. She REFUSES to eat them in her feed. If I put them in her feed in a way that she cannot eat around them, she will just plain not eat her feed. At first the will stand at her bucket and paw, then she will eat about half- then she will just start refusing to eat it. Leaving it in there and "making" her eat it doesn't work....
I have resorted to mixing her thiamine with yogurt and squirting it in her mouth. MSM i am still just putting on her feed and praying shes getting it. I'm about to start putting it in yogurt too....
If I buy pellets instead of powder and she can't pick them out- she'll refuse to eat it.
I am currently looking into switching to liquid supplements to just squirt in her mouth cause screw mixing yogurt twice a day....
Anyone else have experience with a horse this picky????

Have you tried apple cider vinegar? I havenโt had a horse ever refuse it. Same for aloe Vera juice. Might just try a splash on there. Most horses are picky eaters for a reason. Just have to find the reason lol

Sheโs still on omeprazole being tx for ulcers. I was hoping the further into tx we got, the better she would get about this but that doesnโt seem to be the case.
Makes me think Gastro issues too but hereโs the crazy thing... in the morning I feed her the gastric supplement by hand
(itโs pellets- SmartGut Ultra
). She gobbles it up. If I put water on her breakfast
(with MSM
) she will not eat it. In the evening she gets her ulcer meds
(omep-syringe
) but will refuse to eat the gastric supplement but WILL eat the feed
(with MSM
) if I put water on it. She gets the B1 via syringe twice a day in yogurt because idk how else to get it in her lol. I have legitimately tested this theory numerous times.
This is the STRANGEST horse I have ever had. I just want to put her friggin supplements on her friggin feed like every other horse.

Have you actually scoped her for ulcers to see how bad they are? If she's being picky still sounds like an ulcer related issue to me. Best way to know would be to scope before and after ulcer treatment to see if whatever method you are using to treat is working. All ulcer treatments are not created equal :

My horses LOVE Healthy Coat. I don't really feed it as a supplement, I use it more as a flavor topper. I will add a pump or two in their feed and they will eat every last speck of their supplements. I mean, they nicker at me when they see the jug.....
Maybe couple pumps of that in her feed would help? Give it something to hide the flavor?

you can switch out msm for liquid HA cherry flavored and I think B1comes in a liquid too or do B1 Shots. I'm not sure how anyone has a horse that will skip their feed more than once. I mix all kinds of crap in their feed. they may walk over to try another horse feed to see if its different but end up eating it anyway. If you horse enjoys apples. apple sauce mixed in will work.
