Location: the land of dust & sticks | so after buying a hay net that I thought would be ok and get it in....it’s a piece of junk....SO what good heavy duty larger cord slow feed hay nets do you like? I’m looking for like 2x2 in netting or slightly larger with a net length of 45-50 inches.i have one that meets these dimensions but I have No idea what brand it is. Honestly I think my Mom may have picked it up at a show or store 4 or so years back but I have no idea.
The one I just bought was a look alike but when I got it the string is tiny and it’s not as long as described. |

Location: MN | I love my Hay Chix nets. Out of pure curiosity, I went and bought a very cheap hay net from my local feed store and added the clips like the Hay Chix ones do....thinking I could replicate it. I was very wrong. It sucks. Plain and simple. It also stretched, so now its oddly shaped and it's so much harder to fill with hay than my Hay Chix!! |

| I bought some cheaper ones like $9 from Stateline Tack and they have held up very nicely and they are 2"x2' holes. I'll have to look up exactly which ones they were. |

I don't use rope slow feed nets. I have found either a) the don't hold up or b) the nylon netting (that holds up) are tough on the teeth and gums.. I switched to they nylon webbed ones. Derby Originals are good (but pricey) and the Tough 1 brands are cheaper and so far have held up well. |

Location: Southern Indiana | Big D's has nice hay bags. I have some of the slow feeder ones that were like $6 and they are really nice. I don't use them all the time, though. I mostly use the bigger hole ones. Definitely suggest looking there though. |

These are the ones I use, I am just now needing to replace some of mine after 2 years and they get used all day, every day for my racehorses in stalls. I haven't found any better nets for the money and they come in several colors. |

Location: NE TX | I bought a cheap knock off of Hay Chix online.. I think it's the one from Stateline Tack if I remember right. I bought one for myself and tried it and got another for my Secret Santa last year when I saw how well it worked. I let a friend use it for 2 months while her mare was on stall rest so she would stuff herself with hay and it still looks brand new.
I've now had it for a year and LOVE IT! I still use my Classic Equine hay bag from time to time, but my mare is very violent and likes to turn the bag around then tear up my hub caps pawing when she cant get to the contents anymore so I like the ease of her being able to pull and rip to her hearts desire and can get to the hay all the time. |

| We use hay chix. I have the “regular” nets for traveling which will hold half a small square bale. We also have the small bale sized nets for winter when we free feed hay.
My observation about the slow feed nets is that the type of hay matters. A nice soft, tender hay works very well. They can easily get a bite and don’t really have to struggle to get one. Tougher hay with thicker stems don’t work as well, it just doesn’t come through the smaller holes as well.
We had a cutting this summer that had some tougher spots in the field, we’ll feed that off the ground instead of in the nets. |
