ok. So many if you saw the post about breathing last week that I made. Well took horse back to vets Friday and scoped again, before work and after. Vets are now thinking it’s more of a heat intolerance than breathing issue and he’s having trouble cooling himself even though he is sweating good and his temp is elevating a lot.  We are sending his images to 2 other places for second opinions as well.
Yesterday I hosed him about 5mins scraped him, put him in shade, then mixed about half bottle of alcohol with small amount of ice and a gallon or 2 of water and wiped and scraped 3x. Within 30-40 mins I had his breathing close to normal and his temp dropped about 1.5 degrees.
Has anybody dealt with this? What you do to help? Do any of the pre performance pastes actually work that claim they help a horse recover quicker and in what way?

BioStar has a supplement that might help. It helped my horse.

Possible cushings? I had a mare, older, but had cushings and could not tolerate the heat.

Nope, he’s a 4yo. It’s really strange but I saw and have heard of several horses lately with similar situation.

I had a similar situation this summer but not quite as severe and it was helped a lot by feeding a daily powdered electrolyte. Then, on days I was running she got a dose of paste first thing in the morning. I use the Finish Line brand and carry it my store. It's very cost effective.

my 6 year old started doing this this summer!!!! We got the blood results friday. His thyroid levels are not good so he now has to take meds for it but it should take it of it. Maybe something worth checking?

Interesting! I have a 5 year old that sweats a lot and breathes heavier. Never coughed though. She is in very good physical shape, but also a really big horse.
