Location: Texas | Has anyone used Santa Cruz Skin and Allergy Supplement? My mare gets summer itch from the microscopic gnats in the spring/summer bad but usually it has gone away by now. I treat it daily with topical IR spray from the vet. She isn't losing hair like she does some in the summer, but her chest, neck and top of her back are still super itchy. I have read some reviews on the SC Skin and Allergy and it seems to be a good product. I compared the ingredients of it to the Platinum Skin and Allergy, which I haven't ever used either, and they are similar, but seems like SC has more of some of them and is quite a bit cheaper. It's about $38 for 31 days supply verses $65 of the same Platinum supply. Her feed and environment haven't changed so I don't feel like she's allergic to those things but I guess maybe things can change. I live in a hot, humid part of Texas and flies really bother her too, she stays in fly boots and mask. Her coat looks good and shiney, she's just itchy. Any suggestions, ideas, or reviews on the product?

I was going to try the Santa Cruz next year as well. I want to say when I was comparing the two one of the owners of Santa Cruz used to be part of Platinum and that is why they are so similar. I have many friends that use the Platinum version and swear by it for their horses.

Thanks for the information. I may try putting her on it and see how she does. I know we are on the downside, or hopefully of the summer itch, but it's odd she's still itching now. Usually by the end of September she's fine.

Location: Lone Star State | OP - did you try this out yet? How were the results? I bought a bag and am in two weeks of trying it out. My gelding rubs huge bald patches off his body and last summer he was wheezing. He was given vetalog injections which helped last year. Thought I would try this as well. I will say so far, it has worked great and he has not rubbed any hair off since on it...but I'm afraid it's really too early to tell and I'll know more in July.
