Curious what you replaced it with? I just want the most inexpensive option. It was only a $600 saddle so I dont want to put too much into it but it does fit everything I've ever put it on so I'm trying to do what I gotta to hang on to it. |

Location: Freestone TX | I had a saddle years ago that could only be purchased with a GREEN seat. I had it replaced with black. Both were suade. I don't remember anymore what the cost was, but it was very reasoanble, and afterward you couldn't tell that I had had any work done on it. |

I currently have that fake ostrich stuff on it that's slick as snot. I just want suede in a neutral color or black. Nothing fancy! Lol! |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | My husband was a saddle maker for over 40+ years..... the amount of $200 - $275 is about the going price for removing and replacing the saddle seat. A call to a saddle repair shop will give you a better idea of how much. I don't know if Veach's are still in business in Trenton, MO?

That's about 3.5 hrs from me but I'll check into it as my husband runs to north Mo, Columbia and areas around there often for work and could take it for me.
I figured anywhere from 200 to 300 bc labor involved. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth it to recover or just sell and get something else. But I feel like I'm riding a slip in slide and I'm over it. |

Years ago, they used to sell a "spray" that you could spray on the saddle seat for less slip. You might try googling something like that before investing a large amount of money in replacing the seat. Personally, unless the saddle was one that I would keep forever, I would not invest that much in a $600 saddle. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | What brand of saddle is it, is it worth spending the money on it? I would get some Blackrock leather conditioner and rub it on the slick seat it will help you stick better untill you can decide to change it out or not I had a few done and it cost me 125.00, but we got some really good saddle shops around here. |

For $125 ish I'd probably go ahead and do it. For $200 plus, nope. I'll sell it. It's an HR saddle I've had for maybe 8 yrs now. Love it. Except the seat.
I'll look up the BlackRock leather conditioner and see if it helps! Thanks! |

Totally googling to see if I can find anything. If I could just find something to hold me over til I get another saddle....I'm all for it. I'd probably keep this one...idk. |

Location: In my own little world | I had a seat replaced with suede for $150. You can also buy Tack Up Grip spray or Sporty Haft-Spray that work really well but if you are where the dirt blows I suggest constant cleaning after using it. |

I wondered how both of those products worked, thank you!
Did they stain your Jean's or get them messy though? |

| A couple years ago I gathered it would be $150 to replace mine with suede. I never had it done though. |

| What about a seat cover like this instead? https://www.thinlineglobal.com/shop/western-saddle-pads/game-changer...
Full disclosure I donโt have one and have never used one - but it might be a less expensive viable option! |

I would not dye the seat and have never removed the suede to have a hard seat, I think the saddle would have to be made with the hard seat to make it right, removing the suede seat might just be a mess if you dont take it to a saddle repair shop.. |

^^^ THIS .... You CAN dye a saddle seat ....However, you take the chance of the dye bleeding (or rubbing) off on your jeans when you ride . Regarding taking the suede off for a "hard seat" ..... NO, I certainly would not recommend that option..... More than likely, under that suede seat is a layer(s) of padding which is GLUED to the ground seat which covers the saddle tree. You would have a real mess! |
