Location: mi | Holy moly. Real temp? our wind chill is supposed to hit that but real temps not nearly that bad. I am just planning on leaving mine in the barn out of the wind with lots of hay and checking water more often. Other then that they will survive. They did a few years ago when it seemed like the entire winter was an arctic blast. |

Location: SE Missouri | Iβm not nearly as concerned as 2013/2014 winter. We will be dry and cold. During the last time we got to -20wind chill it was rain, sleet, then the arctic blast!
Lots of hay and breaking water consistently.

| Free choice hay. Shelter out of the wind and heated waterers weβll be checking to make sure they keep up.
Iβm less worried about the cold and more worried about the temp swing when itβs 40-50* this weekend. |

Location: MN | Our actual temp tonight will be -40 degrees they're saying....wind chills approaching -70 degrees. Hay nets in the lean to, bedded down with straw, round bale, and heated water. They seemed really happy to see me as they came running to the gate for their morning alfalfa in this -48 feels like temp this morning! |

| We aren't going to be cold cold bitter cold, but the temp swing is still going to be worrisome here in VA. I had one this morning that walked off from her feed so I'll be watching her carefully through the day and evening as the front sweeps through. Pretty much free choice hay for all, but the wind will make them work to catch it! |

| Our high is currently 12. Our low tonight is supposed to be -17. Tomorrow's high is -8 and low is -18. Wind around 10-15 both days, tapering off Wed night. The wind chills are supposed to be in the -40s.
Everything is cancelled pretty much, with question marks for Thurs.
My horses are on a round of zesterra and THE electrolyte plus (himalayan salt) with heated water tubs and as much hay as they can stuff their faces with, plus some extra grain. We move the hay around to quiet areas out of the wind to make them move. We feed small squares, so that's easy to do.

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | One of my main concerns in a cold snap is that they will eat hay and not drink enough water. So...we offer them a bucket of warm water with a cup of rice bran meal stirred in. They will drink that down a couple of gallons at a time. It's a good way to ensure they stay hydrated and they love it. |

Location: Kansas | We're in Northeast KS with predicted wind chills close to -20 and actual temps about -10 tomorrow morning. Even the pasture horses are in the barn and we're alternating 3 in stalls, 3 in the pen that includes part of the barn. One set goes in at 5 p.m. when we feed, then we switch at 9 p.m. for night chores and again about 6:20 a.m. for morning chores. So far we haven't put the heated water bucket out, but I told my husband we'll have to use it tonight and tomorrow. One stall has a tank with a heater in it and the barn lot has a tank with a heater, but the other two stalls aren't set up for heaters except the bucket. We'll end up hanging it in one stall and the other horse can reach across the wall and drink from it too. We're also loading them up on hay and everyone has a blanket on. We've got fleece & wool coolers plus Back on Track & Draper sheets that can be added as liners under the medium weight blankets if needed. The barn cats are going to need to jump up on the stall walls and drink from the heated bucket or we'll have to fill the other stall tank up high enough that they can reach it because I know their rubber water pan will freeze tonight. |

Location: North Dakota | -35 or so actual temp expected tonight here with windchills this morning in the -50s. All the horses were happy and spunky. We put some in stalls as we are in the flat land of ND and the wind is killer as we don't have any wind blocks. Each pen has a shelter but we allow those who can't handle stalling to have access to our indoor arena so they can get fully out of the wind and relax. They get along just fine with plently of hay and warm water. |
