Chewing on bit to now chewing on tongue

I purchased a mare this summer and she’s the nervous/always wanting to move forward type. When I first got her I noticed she CONSTANTLY was chomping on her bit while riding doesn’t matter what bit I’ve got on her she’s always chomping. Now she’s started chewing and sticking her tongue out to one side while riding. I’ve had her teeth checked recently and they were fine, anyone have any ideas??

No I haven’t but I will add she also chomps when she’s in a hack so I’m thinking it may just be a habit she’s formed possibly?

My big guy
(horse in my profile pic
) chewed/chomped on his bit constantly. Got one with a roller and took care of the problem.

I have a gelding that will stick his tongue out the side of his mouth and chew on it when he is in pain somewhere.
(I'm glad he tells me when he is hurting...now if he could just tell me where he hurts! LOL
)
