I'm trying to find a good supplement for my barrel horse. She is prone to ulcers because of how anxious and nervous she gets! Last summer I fed her FinishFirst and it kept her looking good and running good but I'm wanting to know what else is out there that will help with her nervousness and also keep her looking and feeling her best. I feed her Koolspeed twice a day and a flake of alfalfa with a flake of Bermuda once a day. She is turned out in small pasture 24/7 so she is not kept in a dry lot or stall. I have thought about trying the MVP GastroPlex pellets and paste.

Sometimes less is more. That’s a lot of hot feed for a horse. If she’s not being ridden for an hour everyday I’d probably cut out the grain and leave her on the alfalfa and Bermuda. Gastro Plex is a great product. It not only contains herbs to help their stomach but has probiotics to aid digestion. If she’s not holding her weight on Alf. And Bermuda I’d add a good fat supp.

This is exactly the type of horse that I've seen CBD pellets be super successful with. I feed Plantacea brand to my horses for general health and wellness, inflammation, etc but it's also amazing for anxiety. A 1lb is $79.99 and lasts a horse 1-2 months depending on how much they need (they all metabolize differently). I highly recommend them! https://plantaceacbd.com/?1=466

Last summer when I was riding her everyday and running barrels on the weekends she got just the feed and a flake of alfalfa and the FinishFirst supplement and she was still anxious and nervous. I thought about just alfalfa and pasture with loose free choice mineral and a salt block. We have an abundance of grass in the pasture she stays in.

I have seen that and thought about giving it a try! Would it be good for ulcers?

CBD!

I FINALLY found something to help my neurotic mare. She is one that is very set in her ways. We tried it all to help her (even Ace) and after lots of wasted time & money- Plantacea CBD pellets have done the trick. So much so that I am considering becoming a dealer.

There has been evidence that cannabinoids have been effective in helping of the digestive tract

My mare gets TLC calm the storm (used to be called stress less) it worked wonders for her!! She got worse when she got feed, found out she can have all the protein she wants but can not handle the sugars and starches including anything that breaks down as such..so she was on alfalfa pellets and rice bran but had trouble holding weight..after a few months on just the pellets and bran with TLC I slowly introduced Tucker milling (if your in the south east area) 12/7 (she gets 2 full scoops of feed(twice a day) and 2 full scoops alfalfa cubes(once a day) along with hay twice a day plus turn out on grass..she gets her TLC once a day now and she is so so so so much better!! She would still get fired up for her run but not uncontrolled hot like before the supplement.. Good luck!!

Huntlee26, I have been selling CBD for almost a year.  We have it in both the pellets & the tincture for the horses.  Keep in mind, not all brands are equal - many have fillers in them, not the highest quality, and no proof that theirs is what they say it is.  (Available lab results).  Ours does.  I rep for www.hopebotanicals.com  and do give a BHW discount on product.  And to answer your question, yes - GOOD CBD will help ulcers due to stopping so much acid production, thus stopping the pain and the cycle.  We have a LOT of information on our page - if you have any questions at all, just msg me.

My young mare who is a bucking crazy horse needed big calming help.  I finally decided to try her on Forefront Calmer, she got it daily and it worked great!

Looked up the feed you are feeding. Looks like there may be corn in it? I would try to find something without corn and you will probably see a difference. A lot of the time the problem with nervous horses is a combination of diet and not being rode enough. Cut the corn out and maybe increase the work load? How much is she being worked. I think if you cut the corn though and treat ulcers you will see a difference in the overall mood and nervousness. If you still need calming after that I would try magnesium or B1 thiamine. I really can tell the B1 helps mares.

I have had luck with a combo of Nrf2 and Uckele's Seroquine supplement. So many factors that need consideration but this combination has been successful for me.

I would rule out ulcers first. My horse can be over anxious and hot at races if I don't have her stomach is bothering her.

If you already have that all figured out I would try magnesium. (which coincidentally is what most ulcer supplements have in them).

How long did it take to see results and what kind of changes did you see?
