Do any of you own or work at a store that swipes a fair amount of credit cards in a month?   Like maybe 500-750 swipes a month?  Was talking with the owner of a store we sell our product at and she said they are allowed "x" number of swipes a month and then they get charged extra for going over that amount.  I don't know if she meant the rate increases or if rate stays the same and she is charged an additional fee per swipe after hitting her "allowance".

That seems odd to me but wanted to get input from others.  If it matters she has the type of machine that prints out the little paper for you to sign, not like the kind at a grocery store where you sign on the machine.

Would prefer to ask actual users and not call the credit card companies cause I just don't trust them.   Thanks

i dont have that particular set up but many companies have used that gimick or others to get me to switch processors.  My guess is their processor rate is set for x-number of swipes per month and then the swipe rate changes.

you can tag CC processing fees to the cost of your good or a cost of doing business.  last year we ran 3% for one location and 5% at the other for the sales dollars.  (both companies were in the 6 figure range for sales processed by cc)

That is a normal thing for a lot of credit card companies. They will also charge "batch" fees, machine rentals and more. Main reason I use the Square. Set % fee for all swipes, a little more for manual transmission. But no other fees and no extra cost for American Express Cards like most companies.

Just for the record square is usually about a full 1% more than you can negotiate with any other processors.  If you are paying over 2% you are getting taken to the woodshed.

Since there are many swipe/chip machine vendors, there are many variations regarding charges / contracts for the machines just as there are various variations/contracts regarding credit card brand fees charged per transaction.  I know several vendors who have recently switched to Square due to the 'flat rate' per transaction regardless of the credit card brand and the fact they purchased the required swipe/chip machine and, therefore, have no machine charges.  It pays to shop around....
