I know huh. After watching the american, I wish I would of learned to breakaway rope & have a horse like Madison Outhier has. Her horse is amazing.

It was very cool to watch!  I’m glad we’re getting calves bought so I can practice more this year.

I told my hubby I wonder how long before the men will be trying to break into that event.   

LOL, I know it was a favorite event of mine when I was in 4-H, I loved it. I think thats how alot of the calf ropers get started is by break away roping and then as they get older and stronger they move in to the calf roping. The calf ropers I know they all started out in break away.. But if its catching back on you bet those men will be doing it again, especially if theres money in it, lol..

I remember a friend years ago making the remark when men started to break into  barrel racing and even wanted to qualify for the NFR.

"Wherever they smell money."

I think the NHSRA Junior High Division offers breakaway roping for boys before they start calf roping. Breakaway roping is one of the most challenging events- there are so many variables, so to be consistently good is just an amazing feat! It is fantastic seeing it promoted on such a high stage!

Now if only we can get the goat tying at that level.....

I remember watching Cody Ohl in the Jr. Boy’s breakaway in TYRA. What a beast he was! I loved breakaway roping, but I was the WORST, haha! I loved watching Donna Herman, Mo Derby, and others rope. Even back then it took a fast 2 to win. Donna Herman has ice on her vines! That chick was awesome. Wish she would have continued into the pros. 

After competing there and seeing the amount of people who showed up, as well as the quality of people there, I think breakaway is going to get really big and there’s no reason it shouldn’t! All I can say is get someone to teach you, practice, get a good horse, and start entering. We should start seeing some crazy money added to breakaway!

The young girls were there to rope!  I can’t imagine being that young and handling that amount of pressure!  It was fun to watch and I think it was very popular with the crowd.  Hope they keep it up!
