I am glad it's over as well...

Simply because I was dreading this years filing.

I ended up paying the IRS $574 ...ouch

Like that proverbial bandaid---rip it off and at least it's over!   I always hate when my clients owe, makes me sad . Cause I see SUCH abuse during this time of year.  .  .

Week before last I did payroll checks for 2 Hispanics for our country club.   An hour later I got a call from board president--the men were having a fit because I held out taxes--"we are on Visas and don't pay taxes."   I wanted to spit I was so mad, but we refunded the taxes and this week I "cheerfully" gave them their checks without those horrible AMERICAN taxes withheld.

Those darn American taxes! It’s almost like they think they should be allowed to live here with all the perks and none of the hassle!

We got a whopping $25 back this year.... Better than having to pay in right? I told my husband not to spend it all at one time.....

I work in an office w/ two accountants. Everyone worked extra thru tax season even if not directly involved in taxes just to help handle all the extra phone calls, people coming in and out, or just to help the accountants make copies, file, upload, etc, if we had a few extra minutes. I'm back to my normal schedule and I'm SO GLAD.

Edited to add....we strategize every year to be as close to breaking even as possible. I really don't want a big refund. I want that extra money in my pocket throughout the year!

I'm an accountant and I don't go anywhere near taxes, I hate them that much. I do payroll & AP where I work.  I even have someone do my own taxes, but he's free for me as he just includes it in with my parents still for no extra charge. I will say this year I was super impressed with the IRS and their speed, I had my federal refund in less than 48 hours from when we filed electronically. The state I've been waiting on for a month though, who knows when I'll see that one. Last year I had to pay and this year I got $200 back, so I'm pretty happy. At work though I had to gather most of the paperwork the company accountants needed and assit them, which was more than I wanted to deal with lol

I don't have much of an issue with Federal taxes but State that's a whole nother story........and thank you Democrats for allowing our Social Security checks to be picked apart with taxes.  That was never supposed to happen.

I still work and am 68 and collect SS and I still have to pay because of those SS checks.  I just find it har to wrap my head around why I still have to pay on something that I paid on all those years.  I get it that it is earned income but my Medicare comes out of it also.

Same. IRS was within a week. State of Georgia was about a month.

Tax people can breath a sigh of relief and take a little breather and than it is time to get to work on the returns that had to be extended for whatever reason.

I am a few years retired from that world and GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

I had to call my accountant yesterday. I felt bad. It isn't her fault my new trust into didn't come in until last week. I just wanted to make sure she'd file an extension if it got later than 8 or 9pm since we go to bed early. This is the first time I've had my taxes done so late in the season. I'm pretty sure my accountant and her assistant were punch drunk because they were both laughing and having a grand time -- but it's also a sign that they are healthy peeps and dealing with the 11th hour stress in the best way. Anywho - our taxes got submitted about 8pm last night.

I was irritated but had to "be nice."   They work full time at a chemical/seed/repair place.   NOTHING held out and I bet they make very decent money. . . I guess it's over my head, cause I simply don't get it .

We normally file an extension just because we procrastinate and always got money back.  This year we filed an extension but have an appointment for the day they come back from their after taxes vacation because we are going to have to pay in after selling the house that my sisters and I owned for my mother to live in.  My share of the proceeds for the sell of the house are going to cost us.

Years ago when my husband worked at Boeing he worked on airplane wings alongside a young Vietnamese man.  This guy got five years tax-free after he immigrated here and was livid when they started holding out income tax from his paycheck.  In my opinion he should have been paying the same tax as everyone else and "more."
