Those that put out mineral tubs/licks, which do you use? I caught my younger horse licking dirt the other day and then they are licking the rusted metal poles in the barn sometimes too. They have Redmond salt licks hanging in their stalls but rarely touch them. I want to offer a mineral tub in the pasture for them that isnt mostky molasses! Since I removed molasses pretty much from their diet. I dont even know what's available locally yet because I've never looked.

Go to Tractor Supplys web site and look at theirs. I use a 16% Protein Tub for horses in my back pasture, the horses get what they need out of it, they dont pig out on it and the 200 lb tub last about 3 months, been using this tub for years, but these 3 horses are on grass pasture, I started using these tubs during winter when the grass went down during the winter months, but I started using them year round now, I do feed once a day so I can check up on them since they are out on pasture behind my house. I know you asked about mineral tubs but worked good too. They are not the best but since they have good pasture during the summer months they really dont need much any way.

If they are stalled for grain, I much prefer something added to their feed.  Makes sure they all get it.  I’ve had some that won’t touch the licks, and some that won’t leave them alone.

I use the equilix tubs. The horses really ate a lot at first, but now have slowed down a lot. The big tub has lasted most of the winter for 3 horses. They are molassas free.

They are stalled more than not nowadays. Thet are on a ration balancer and alfalfa cubes. I throw in a scoop of platinum with their cubes at night so I thought I had all my bases covered but apparently not?

If you do put one out just watch your horses for awhile and see how they do on it, sometimes I have seem them where they sit there and make a pig out of them selves at first but after awhile they will start eating/licking them less and less after they get what they need out of them, but since you do feed your horses just make sure they dont over do it on a tub..I know you will watch them but just wanted to say it anyways to make myself feel better by saying it, lol.

Oh yeah they are under my watchful eye lol! On a side note, I looked up the equilix and stumbled on equipride, I think I tried it several years ago ... but i cant remember how it went .. i had 1 really picky horse that didnt eat it I think. But looking at cost of it compared to platinum,  geez! Plus free shipping ... I guess I need to nose around the internet and see if I can compare the two ... $67 free shipping compared to $160 + shipping for same 25lb bucket  is quite a difference! Looks like the equipride has the pro and prebiotics built in it too.

Yep, I've used the equipride before. I just looked in my hubby's shop and I saw the 25lb bucket he now uses for nuts and bolts lol! After i finish the platinum i may order a bucket and see how it goes .. I'm all about saving some $$ and still feeding a nice all around supplement.

Hummmm, I may just have to check out the Equipride, I like looking up the supplements and see what they have in them just for grins and if I like the looks of them then I give them a try.

So you can get the equipride in 50lb sacks, but only from a dealer. I dont have a dealer near me but at that price I'll just order 2 25lb buckets at a time!

I really like the Equilix tubs.  If you have an Atwood's nearby, they have an all around mineral block for horses, cows, etc.  It's about $10.  It's not the salt block, it's minerals.  I like those too.

Licking poles and rusty things indicate that your soil probably has a low iron content. You can also supplement with Red Cell in this case. Regular mineral salt has a higher iron content. I use free choice minerals made by ADM and also give their mineral tub in the winter. The best price I have found is by ordering a mineral tub through True Value Hardware stores and picking up in store (cheapest option). Horse Lics aren't available locally near me. Tractor supply tubs are higher priced and a lot of molasses content. The ADM tubs aren't focused around the molasses. I do wish zesterra infused tubs were near me.

I just ordered equilix. I saw it can be ordered online and fed ex brings it! Works for me because I live way out from town. I’ll be curious to see how the horses do on it. And if they will even lick it or end up licking it too much. I have a mixed age groups out on 5 -7 acres and noticed that they aren’t licking the salt blocks much if at all ??‍??
