I am looking to relocate in the next year after I sell a couple horses- but I'm not sure where to!  I've grown up in Southwestern Colorado and I like it here but I desperately need a change of scenery and to meet new people!  I'm wanting some place warmer year round, reasonable cost of living, decent job market, and fun for rodeo/barrel racing.  I've been thinking Texas/Oklahoma but I'm open to anywhere really- tell me where you're at/where you've been and if it is awesome! lol

Girl...I hear ya. South TX is ALWAYS hot/humid.

But hell...if you really, truly want want warmer (hot, very hot) go to South TX or come to North Central TX.

It has been so humid and hot this particular year that I will not complain one bit about any wind or cold temps this winter! Uggghhh!

It has felt like Houston since early August.

And there are TONS of barrel races within an hour drive any night of the week.

I have been in humid, hot weather in other states (like peel your jeans off after riding), but this summer in North Central TX has been bad.

I'm in N. Central Texas (DFW).  I don't think people really understand how hot it is here in the summer, and it doesn't cool off at night.  After a 100* day, we cool off to a 95* night.  And it lasts 5 months.  I know snow is an issue, but our heat is just as much of an issue for us.  I don't run barrels anymore, so I don't ride at all in summer months because it's just too hot.   There's plenty of barrel racing.  Land is very high - almost to the point of being unattainable now. Traffic is horrible and reminds me of LA.  I think if I were to move to this area now, I'd go somewhere toward Waco.

Georgia has pretty mild winters typically....they do get the occasional snow! I lived an hour South of ATL for 20 years and now live in Northern Minnesota. I'd be lying if I said I didnt miss GA because I do dearly. Especially come February...by that time I'm DONE with old man winter!

You could live on the outskirts of ATL and be close to all kinds of job opportunities. Huge barrel racing community down there. Nice rodeo scene as well. Very hot and very humid summers that seem to last forever. You're also super close to hitting the TN/AL/SC/NC rodeos/races. Basically, GA is a great place to live for what you are looking for!

Southern Indiana can offer you 4 seasons.... and sometimes all in one day.  (I wish i was lyin )

Lots of great races year round.  Most within a couple hours but if you wish to travel farther you can.  If you want a rodeo scene this is not the address you want.  NBHA, IBRA, NPBA are all in abundance.

we have a less than 3% unemployment rate in the area but are all starved for good employees.  Its a low cost of living area, low crime, more churches than grocery stores.

You can find any geographical area you want.  Hilly windy or flat.  We have trees and ponds and Rivers and valleys.

I enjoy visiting the beach-hrs to gulf shores, downtown Nashville/Indy/st Louis- all within 3hrs, the mountians at Gatlinburg-5hrs.  But there is no place like home.

Good luck in your choice for new scenery.  Keep us posted.

I'm ok with learning to deal with heat, I just need new and different.  I guess I'm looking for recommendations on specific towns that would be good to check out.  I've been mostly looking at Weatherford/Fort Worth area...

I'm just south of Ft. Worth. Land is sky high here, and even higher in Weatherford.  No rattlesnakes in my area, but plenty in Weatherford.

OR - consider central Oklahoma.  We have jackpots every night of the week.  Yesterday, (Saturday) there were three jackpots, two with added money, within 75 miles of us!  Also had at least one Friday night and having another one today.  My neighbor made two of them and would have made a third, but just needed the rest, LOL.  We are just about half an hour south of Tulsa.  Land is pretty darn cheap around here, too. It is truly hot, though, and stays hot around here until probably the end of September or so.  Winters are generally really mild, though.

I want to be in Weatherford BUT when we both ended up with jobs in north Dallas. We live south of Dallas off 175 and make that commute. Some days it isnt bad and others I seriously contemplate turning in my 2 weeks and going to work at Buccees in Terrell!!!!! Land is definitely cheaper south of DFW.
If you are going to rent, be prepared to pay alot for horse property. When we moved up here from SW Louisiana, we bought an RV, lived in an RV park and boarded the horses until we could find a reasonably priced property to rent. Right now we are on just under 4 acres. It isnt the greatest BUT the dogs can stay out all day and the horses are right outside the RV. Literally. They stare in the bedroom window when they dont think we are getting up fast enough.
I can say this about the area, the horse people are clickish and mean, but there are some good ones. You can haul an hr in any direction from where we are at, any night of the week and find a race. OKC is 3 hrs away, Waco, Glen Rose and Weatherford 1.5 hrs, Ruston is 3 hrs, Fort Worth is less than an hour. Its a barrel racers dream. Yes its HOT in the summer but for the most part, you dont battle ice and snow in the winter. Thats a trade off for me ;)

Good Luck and feel free to holler at me if you decide to come this way.
