Location: 31 lengths farms | I know the power of prayer, you all helped get me thru some dark times with my little mare . My brother in law is currently in the hospital with sepsis from an infection in his leg, he is also diabetic. He broke his foot about 3 years ago but it went undiagnosed for almost year. Doctor kept telling him it was gout and he needed to lose weight. Finally exrayed it about a year after the symptoms started to find it was broken so they casted it, then took the cast off and put him in a walking boot a few months later only to re-exray and find it hand't healed properly. The did surgery on it, scraping the bone spur on the bottom of the foot to relieve the pressure. Seemed to work for about a 6 months, then started hurting again, so they went back in and scraped some more. That was a month or so ago. After the second surgery to scrape the bone he began not feeling well. Had an appointment, they scheduled him for a day that the doctor wasn't in and he ended up seeing a PA who wasn't really up to date on what was going on and rescheduled him for a new appointment with his regular doctor. Fast forward, he gets to that appointment and the doctor tells him he has an infection in the leg and to go to the ER. He has had 2 procedures since Wednesday night to go in and flush the infection, has another scheduled for today and its getting IV antibiotics also for the sepsis but so far no real changes in his bloodwork.

Location: 31 lengths farms | So its been a crazy up and down nightmare. Thankfully the antibiotics finally got ahead of the infection, he had to have the leg flushed 2x a day for several days and a drain inserted in it. Then he was supposed to go to a rehab/wound care facility and the day he was supposed to go they found out that thier insurance wouldn't cover "skilled" nursing so thier solution was to send him home and send home health care to tend the wound. However they live quite a ways away from anywhere USA and no home health companies were willing to send thier nurses up that far so they were going to send him home and "teach" my sister to pack the wound. He still cannot get himself up out of bed by himself, nor to the bathroom by himself, their home has several levels up and down from bedroom to living room to bathroom, Steve is 6'2" and a larger man, my sister is 5'4" and had knee surgery in July, if he went down I highly doubt she coudl get him back up. It's about an hour and half drive from the town that would have ambulance service to thier place. So anyway, I finally got to thinking about how many times my fiance has had insurance turn down a claim, thankfully the doctor's office was willing to try a different billing code and rebill the insurance and finally get it paid so I mentioed that to my sister who contacted both the hospital and her insurance and they worked out a billing code that the insurance will pay for the rehab/wound care facility!!! Thank you all for the prayers <3 |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Let this be a lesson for all of us, ask questions!!! If you get an answer that you don't like or agree with from the hospital or insurance ask the same question a different way, we have to be advocates for ourselves and our loved ones these days especially!!! |
