I have a 4 yr old gelding 16h who is exhibiting a little low back soreness. He is also tight throughout the muscles around his poll/ears and is a little sensitive with his ears now.

We have the massage and chiro out once a month, vet was out and wasn’t super concerned based on how big and powerful he is so is attributing it to that. Massage therapist would like to see some more muscle to fill out his butt. Saddle fits fine. We do lots of long and low work and have started incorporating ground poles. 

He lives in his PHT blanket, turned out during the day and inside at night. I have also started rubbing his down with the new MagnaCU topical products. What else can I do to strengthen his lower back and loosen him through the poll? Is it just in part to him growing and being entered this summer? 

Lift his belly.   Take your fingertips to the center of his belly and scratch/dig them in so he lifts up, dragging them out and up. 

Cookie stretches for the pole.  Back around to both sides as far as he's able and then down between his front legs.  You can also go up, straight in front of him. 

Where do you get the MagnaCu Topical Products?  I am looking for topical that would help with soreness and pain.

Draw it Out is also a good product as well, I used it for keeping my kissing spine mare's back happy before I got the confirmed diagnosis, & will continue to use it for her back. Also highly recommend MagnaWave, I just had my gal do my own back Saturday. I feel like an entirely new person lol 

Lumbar soreness = Hock and/or stifle soreness.

pole soreness is usually a sign of rear ended soreness 

My 17 hand show horse is very long backed and has a tendency to get sore, especially when not ridden steady. We did have his hocks injected this spring as an 8 yr old. They weren't bad, but xrays did show some fusing. I am not quick to inject but we had a fabulous show season so I am so glad I followed my vets advice. He felt better than ever. I also have to watch his hind feet. He has a tendency to have low heels and a negative palmar angle. I am his farrier and have been able to keep him as ideal as he is built to be. He has never needed shoes and I try to keep it that way.

I have him massaged in the spring before our show season and sometimes again mid year. This year I was able to just keep showing and I think a lot was because his hocks felt better. I did do the PEMF at our July show. He had a couple long days and I figured what they hey. I spend a fortune on him anyways!

For the past 2 years when I had him massaged in the spring, I also had mesotherapy done to his back. It is very reasonably priced and gets him feeling better immediatly. We all know if one thing hurts on a horse, pretty soon other things start to hurt as they compensate. I hope if I can keep him ridden this winter, we can skip that and maybe just inject and massage and go from there.

Thank you! Figuring out his back pain was a nightmare. I also have a magnacu blanket for him and use DIO and Sore No More on and off, but never used any of it this past summer. I don't think any of those products can fix anything, but I do believe they can help keep them feeling better if they don't have any issues-mainly after a ride or trailering/stalling etc. Seems we are money ahead to get to the bottom of the issues and then try and maintain comfort.
