Just wondered how many folks on here hunt hogs?   Our farms and woods are overrun, and Chan and LB have been going with one of their friends the last few days to do their part in thinning the herd!!!  (Is it allowed to post pictures of them with the dead hogs?   I also don't want to offend anyone.)

It wouldn't offend me! I hate those things. They truly are a horrible nuisance and can get out of control so fast. They are nasty creatures, they will kill newborn fawns. My husband gets called out a lot to come hunt them from several friends deer leases because they kill the fawns. They are good eating and lots of times the meat gets donated to food banks and shelters. 

I have heard how destructive they are to agriculture of all types (animal or plant) and can only applaud all hunters that try to help with the issue. I'm sure the pigs play a beneficial part in nature in normal numbers, but they have overrun their territories and are in need of serious thinning. We have to thin the deer here in northern VA annually so completely understand. 

I will kill every feral hog I see if I can. They reproduce at such a fast rate and they are so very destructive. Keep in mind that they do carry some significant zoonotic diseases like brucellosis and you should always wear gloves and be careful handling them.  Wash hands etc.

I would love to go hog hunting, but we don't have them here.  

Growing up we would hunt hogs horse back with dogs, bring'em home, feed'em out and butcher them.  Now we hunt them at night with thermals, its fun and helpful to keep the population under control.  My sister had some root up her perfectly manicured lawn, and she had a fit, called us crying - you gotta do something with them.  I had to laugh.... it was pretty bad though.  She lives in the country next to us on the family land, but she's a city girl.

  There is no season on wild hogs, you can hunt or shoot them year round.  There's no reason you shouldn't be able to post pictures if you'd like to.  I would enjoy seeing them.

I saw a news story where they were a real problem in Canada but not being hunted that much so were crossing into the U.S. in large numbers.  Illegal immigrant hogs........who knew.

We have a few running around theres a huge farming field behind my barn and those varmints run back there and root up corn like crazy. I can always tell when the hogs have come thru because my horses act all snorty when it's time to come into the barn for the night. These things arent exactly small either! 

We're having a "sausage making party" this weekend! There's a few hanging in the walk in and we're hoping to get a couple more tonight. 

Off topic, but last year we found a tiny (like chihuahua sized) piglet trotting down the road. We caught her and brought her home and fed her out. And holy moly she makes the BEST carnitas. I did get pretty attached to her, she was a charachter. But keeping a wild pet pig was not on my list of things to do lol

Kill hogs, coyotes and iguanas on site!

So far this year we have killed 401 with dogs hunting them.  The count with the thermal scopes and night vision are more.  We haven't made a dent yet.  They move out for a while after you hunt them heavy and then just come back. 

They dig up our underground irrigation around the trees, root up the corn and peanuts and generally just ruin things.  It is too bad there isn't a posion we could use that was safe. 

Theres a lady down the road from us, I think shes raising a herd or whatever you call it of wild piggies! I saw them run out of the ditch on the road into her yard and behind her home ... shes a collector if you know what I mean. My hubby said she had better hope they dont travel too far or theyll end up rolled into a tortilla lol! 

Yep! We have a bad coyote problem, granted it's gotten much better since we leave our big labs outside they keep them run off. But I mentioned something a while back on Facebook about shooting coyotes and someone jumped my butt about killing off natural predators of the land ... blah blah... city slicker just you wait till your lil white fluffy dog or precious kitty cat gets carted off by one. We shoot every coyote we see out here.

What do you do with them all??   Is it like Coyotes?  Throw them in a ditch?  Or do you give them away as food?

If it is around a holiday, some of them are given away and the people grill the small ones.  I don't eat them at all.  The rest feed the vultures.  We even have a bald eagle that has been seen eating on them. 

Actually saw my 2nd and first one near the house, bald eagle the other day when i came around a bend and it took off in front of me from where it was eating a baby hog that had been hit by car. Thought it was a black vulture till it took off. Im not a hunter currently but ive seen what they can do. We've had a few horses nearby get hurt after coyotes ran them through fencing, so everyone been on the lookout

Wouldn't offend me at all. They are pests that ruin crops and land! 

Not offended here. My husband built a huge trap. He doesn't have time to hunt them & the people in our area that do, well lets just say I don't trust them. Bob caught 9 one day in his trap. He killed them & we donated the meat to a family in our area who were in hard times.. Couldn't bring ourselves to eat them. Nasty things. I hate them & was furious at them for the damage they did to our pasture. Bob did shoot 2 he saw cause he happened to have his new rifle on him that day  :)  

I know they're a huge problem in Australia too because I remember watching Steve Irwin and his dog catch them to bait traps to catch nuisance alligators.

I just googled it and there are as many as 24 million in Australia and they're also a huge problem in Hawaii.
