In conversation over the weekend, are there any clones out there doing anything?

I mean have any gone on and made half the horse they were cloned from?

I can't think of any...

i have not seen any with huge success.  they appear to be siblings not actual clones. look at latte, none of his clones look identical to him. they look similar but not a true clone. true clones are a topic not appropriate for this forum, but if you dig you will find the truth...

After the cost of cloning an individual horse, most wouldn't be willing to take the chance and have it be a performance dud.  The cloned animals are usually for breeding purposes only.

Which is funny because offspring from the clones are not legally registered through AQHA.

Are the clones able to be registered?  I obviously haven't kept up with any of it lol...

No. They are being registered through the DNA registry.

AQHA isn't special.  We generally register for age and lineage verification.  ADNA registry does the same, for much less work and cost.

Not to my knowledge but they are only registering a very small fraction of total horses produced within the industry.  I dont know the numbers but I'd guess less than 1%.

I was curious because I didn't follow it, and thought, well maybe there was one out of all those that did...

But I hadn't heard of any...

Im not even sure what clones are even still alive...

I had heard Another Shot (hotshot) was running at BFA??? I should try to see how he did.

I dont think many are old enough to have much offspring to be too big of standouts.

ETA - I may have lied because I cant find it. Looks like a baby of his ran though.

Share the results if you find them....

I found this on Clayton, Scampers clone

The clone, Clayton, was born Aug. 6, 2006. Clayton entered stud in 2008 and currently stands at Buffalo Ranch in Weatherford, Texas.

So if that is true he would have some 10 year olds out there...

And I looked for that ranch, can only find one in Ft Worth... and he isn't listed on the stallions standing there...

I knew my knowledge on this subject was weak, but the more I am reading and the input here, I wonder if they are cloning much these days

I found at the OKC Futurity - this was what I was thinking of. I knew it was going on around NFR.

Oh, gotcha... and how old is Another shot now?

I know they cloned some cutters or reiners but haven't heard anything about them either...

2010 - I guess theyre all older than i thought.

I knew Clayton was older and he seemed to fall off the grid really fast. He used to have a whole section on her website.

Another Shot has to be 9 or so now?

Blaise Bercequay was running the Red Man Bay clone a couple of years ago. Seems like he was doing ok. I’m not sure if she still is or not though.

Someone (can’t remember who) told me the Latte clone was looking pretty good.

I also heard Clayton was gelded. No idea if that’s the truth or just a rumor since he sort of dropped off the face of the planet.

I should have dug deeper. The Red Man Bay clone (Douglas) fractured his hock at the 2018 BFA in the first go of the derby and hadto have surgery. No idea if he recovered though.

Adolphi Cambiaso is the polo player. CBS did an interview. He has dozens of clones of a mare. He rides and breeds them. They have numbers for names.

I know a lady with a Clayton baby. He is coming 2. Mary has two Latte clones.
