I'm almost finished with this other metabolic mix and I'll just say I'm not really impressed. So looking at the mvp stuff... there are 3 different supplements. Anti carb, D-carb and Carb-X  I cant really figure out what's so different between them. Can someone give a cliff notes version?! I'm feeding this horse bluebonnet ex factor so its low in NSC and technically grain free. I'm not up to the recommended amount yet as hes being switched over from beet pulp to this pelleted feed.. but I believe he will he getting a max of 5lbs a day.

I cant really tell you much but to get on Med-Vet Pharmaceuticals site and read up on the 3 you listed, I use the Anti-Carb and have used the D-Carb. My IR gelding has been on the Anti-Carb since he was diagnosed, he still has a set back every once in awhile as to where he gets sore my fault when it does happen..

I'm going to give Platinum performance metabolic support a try.. picking up tomorrow from my vet.. I've always had good results with their stuff so hopefully this will deliver what I'm wanting. Seems like the key ingredients are magnesium and chromium yeast in majority of these metabolic supps.. im getting 60 days worth and was told to give it at least that before deciding it doesnt work. Looking over the ingredients on what I was feeding him I dont see anything in there about magnesium or chromium so I'm not sure how I feel about that! Kinda disappointed I didnt do the research before I just jumped in and purchased it. Well it obviously didnt hurt him but I dont think it wasnt  geared towards what I was wanting to accomplish either.

If you call MVP and ask them they are really helpful and can tell you.

I was curious too. This is straight from April at MVP:

D-Carb Balance is best suited for horses that now have a restricted grain diet due to being IR. The D-Carb contains vitamins and trace minerals to make up for what they are lacking, due to restriction of grain or if you have switched from an alfalfa type hay to grass.

Anti-Carb supports glucose metabolism with Magnesium and Chromium, good for horses that are already getting vitamins/minerals still through forage or grain.

Carb-X also contains magnesium and chromium, but also includes herbals if that is your preference.

So extra anti-oxidant appraoch to the Carb-X

Thank you! That's very insightful. If I dont end up liking the platinum I'll definitely give the mvp a go. It was recommended by 2 vets instead of having him eat the thyro-l which he hated anyway and I didn't feel comfortable giving him that. We are exercising and watching the diet carefully ... I know hes lost weight it's just hard to see it. But I've gone up 2 holes on his cinches lol! Hes a big boy to begin with but definitely needs to tone up when hes fit he looks really good! The cresty neck stuff is what bothers me the most. Someone was telling me the other day how lucky I was to have such an easy keeper... I'm sorry but I disagree... its almost more difficult to have an easy keeper like him because you have to really micromanage his diet and worry about turnout and grass and hay analysis and grain being low enough NSC along with any supplements you want to add. It's a lot of work... you can just simply cut down his food intake  . It doesnt work that way!
