So we have a few big barrel races coming up in our area that are still on.... given the situation and the warnings from officials, how many of you think that they should be cancel? would you still go if they don't cancel them? I know it is a personal choice for many but I am just curious.

I'm not very competetive, so I'd stay home. I can see the point to staying home for a couple of weeks (and I also respect others opinions!) so I'm just going to stay home as much as I can.

My horse only has 2 weeks on him after 3 months off, so he's still got another month to be legged up before we can even think about running. The first one I was planning on going to is the beginning of May. If this is still an issue by then, which I doubt anyway, and they don't cancel it I'll be there. If I had a horse legged up I'd still go. I have my injections appointment next Tuesday & I'll still be going to that too

All of the rodeos I was planning to go to in March/April/May have already been canceled. Seems like most of the barrel jackpots around here are not wavering and going as scheduled. I'm not planning to go anywhere atleast until May. I think we will know more after 45 days or so and I can re evaluate then. I canceled my vet appointment to have my horses hocks done , no need to waste money if I'm not traveling. I saw on the news in Kentucky where a man , age 53, tested positive for corona virus and REFUSES to quarantine. Governor had to send armed police to enforce it. I can only assume there are hundreds more of arrogant pin heads doing the same thing. CDC is now recommending no groups larger than 10. Not to mention money exchange. Most barrel races take cash and pay in cash. No thanks.

I'm torn, part of me is thinking, stay close to home, done make any unnessecary trips anywhere. The other part of me is like, we can't stop living our lives.

My horses haven't been rode since the middle of October, pray for me when I get back on, so I'm not ready to go to any races yet, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth getting them legged up or if we're going to be grounded most of the summer?

There have been a few races in Utah cancelled, the Ruby Buckle was postponed, the Salty Dash had to find a new faciility to hold theirs, but just announced, literally as I was typing this they are going to have to postpone because the Golden Spike in Ogden, Utah is shutting down.

Same here.  My family in Europe is begging me to stay put and to take this seriously but part of me is like... dang it!  I want to run!

I don't think it will be a big issue around here.  Everything is getting canceled right and left.

Our local association cancelled everything because their insurance told them to and rightfully so. I don't have anything to run anyways but I wouldn't be going. FLATTEN THE CURVE PEOPLE.

I am legging my boy up now, so wouldn't go anytime soon. But even if we where fit to run I'd stay home. No need to be looking for trouble. There will always be stubbord selfish people running and going out anyway, so I rather just stay home and ride here.

i kniw people say "ohhh, I stay to myself, and don't get close to anyone...." well, all someone has to do is sneeze when you are around (like in the warm up pen or riding by...) and you could be the next one....

Yep to all this. I'm not really concerned about my immediate family as we are all young and healthy. If we get it, it more likely than not would be mild. That said, I feel like the more we all just do our part and "socially distance" ourselves, the faster this will blow over OR the less of a big deal it will become.

The one race I was planning on going to this weekend has been postponed. Next on my list isn't til April 11th, and I'm really hoping by then much of this is gone.

I had an appointment at the orthopedic office to get my cast cut off.  After my broken wrist healed the tendon to my thumb ruptured so had surgery on that on Valantines day.  Anyway I made the comment that I guess another month or so recovery wasn't going to be a big deal since wouldn't be any place to go anyway.  He said something that will really put things into perspective.  His wife had read this........In times past the goverment has ask our people to go to Germany, Vietnam, desert storm and all these other horendous places for the better of our people.  Now they are just asking that we stay home.  Hits hard doesn't it

Someone said today--we always complain about not getting to spend quality time with our family/kids because of work . . Now we are being given that opportunity, with approval.

I am a nurse and my suggestion would be to follow social distancing as much as you can and just stay home. Use it as a time to tune/leg up your horses, get that list of "to do's" done or simply use it as bonding time between you, your family AND your horses!!

Thank you for being a nurse, and prayers to keep you and your family safe.

I'm going to take time to consider just how lucky I am.  Being stuck at home when you have land, horses and toys is really not so bad.  Now I know many of you have bills to pay and worry about your jobs.  Forced into early retirement has advantages you learn to live on less.  However my Mom ask me once...... How much money do you really need?  Losing my job unexpectly let me spend 4 years with her I wouldn't have got.  My retirement fund has crashed too.  Take time to enjoy what you have most of us are pretty blessed

Thanks again to all the nurses and people who have to work

That's where Im at right now... I would rather spend a few weeks at home now, while it's muddy anyway, then to spend months at home...

With friends and family getting laid off and not knowing when they will go back to work, and with my rodeo friends basically coming to a stand still... I would rather do my part and stay home so they can all get back to work, so we can get the economy back up

I must be the odd person.  My belief is most equine folks don't work around people who are coming in and out of the country & the goverment is trying to slow it down, not stop or get rid of it.  I'd go and was entered in the BBR finals as well as other larger races that have canceled.  I have three horses to run so I stay busy outside with them.  The recommended 6' distancing is pretty easy with my ponies.  I normally don't have time to sit and socialize.  So, I'd go in a heart beat.

We have a few local arenas that are still having races which really surprises me. I'm staying home, no need to race. I will keep riding out on my trails and work on some drills but I will hold off from racing.

I also think everyone should do what is ask of us.  This has to be gotten under control or our lives will change as we know it for a lot longer.  Barrel races should cancel for the safety of all.  There is too many fragile people out there.  Just heard a 2 year old tested positive.  Ban together and do the right thing.
