Why on earth is a spayed female cat spraying?? One of my female barn cats has been spraying around like a darn fully loaded tom cat. In fact we have been thinking it was a few tom cats we see coming and going around here... but I just saw with my own eyes my female back up to the side of my house and do the shakey tail thing and she sprayed!!! I'm so mad!!! My barn stinks, my smarty steer stink, my hay, my tack room now too because I let them in to eat while I'm out there. That heifer sprayed all my feed bins... I see the marks... what the heck!!!? Shes been fixed several years, never had a litter or even had a heat cycle..  I had them spayed when they were old enough to do it. She nailed my husbands tractor too... now he has his sights on her. She sprayed my herbs too that I just planted on my porch .... and my barrels in the arena! Her days are numbered unless theres something I can do to ger her to stop! Sick of smelling it... thankfully shes not my best mouser.... she catches birds only... we refer to her as feathers.

I am no help, but I am not a big cat person either.. because of the whole spraying thing. It smells soo bad. But it sounds like Feather's might get accidentally fed to the coyotes if she doesn't stop, at least.. or I'd just find her a different home

Anxiety is what my vet said when we had one doing it. A tom cat had come around & she started spraying. She stopped when he disappeared though. It was just the one tom too, some others had come & gone that she didn't mind. She may just be threatened by them & is trying to mark stuff to tell them no tresspassing lol. Maybe try getting the toms to stay away if you can & see if she stops?

I hate to say this but we have gotten rid of so many Tom's that show up... at least a dozen in the past few years. I dont know where they come from. But they all usually look alike. Big stupid heads and fat necks. My dogs hate other cats , I'll let them out and run them off. I just recently quit feeding in the hay barn because I was feeding a bunch of strange cats apparently... I moved my cats dishes into my tack room and my girls know now they had better come eat when I'm open! I have 3 total out here, all spayed. Shes the only 1 I've seen doing it. To be fair I've seen these tom cats, currently there are 2 that I see daily... spraying the bushes and trees around my barn and I did see the bigger cat spray my barrels too. Poor feathers, she needs to get it together and soon!

Probably trying to cover their marks to tell them they're not wanted there. I would think as long as you have food where they can't get it, they'll move along to their next stop. Especially if they figure out they're all spayed there. All it takes is that one male to rub them the wrong way. I wanna say it lasted around 3 weeks with ours, it's been a couple years

Shes marking her territory. Dont kill her for something that comes natural to her, rehome her if you can.

Oh no he will get rid of the Toms before he gets rid of feathers. I know for sure there are 2 right now and it's been probably a week or 2 since I took the food up. I also know there is a female on the other side of us.. i see her with a kitten or 2 sometimes, .. then shes by herself ... guessing the Toms are killing kittens?? I hate those cats they are super afraid of people cant get near them. My girls are friendly. They were born in my house I still have their momma inside. Because she went blind in 1 eye.

The coons & possums get our kittens pretty quick. None ever survive. We finally just spayed everyone through the $20 feral program we have here

I wish we had that here. I use to be able to go to Waco to ABC and get it done so cheap! But they stopped doing it for other counties a while ago. Luckily I had all 4 of my cats and my dogs done before they changed their policy. It was so inexpensive there was no excuse not to get it done!

I think I may know what's going on with feathers... I believe she has a UTI. After sitting and watching her this afternoon she is showing all the signs of one... lots of prolonged squatting and no urine or very little... poor dear... I hope I can catch her to take her to the vet. It's not an ideal time for me to take her to town... but my vets office put out a notice they are having clients check in and wait in their vehicles until it's time to go in the back. No one is allowed to wait in the waiting room. I have no choice but to haul my boys to town tomorrow with me if I take her. My hubby will be gone on an overnight. I do not have anyone to watch them for me. I know this cat has a uti ... I've seen it before in another cat we had. I actually think 2 of my cats have it.. but feathers seems way worse than berta ... I can only hope my vet will give me enough to treat 2 cats ..  there is no way I can catch the other shes borderline feral.... and I hope they can give me something that's easy to administer like in their food! Feathers definitely needs antibiotics... shes in bad shape ... :-(   I for one, know how painful those darn things are.

I watched the 3rd kitty (bubbles) and shes not really showing signs of one ... she leaves our property a lot sometimes for a few days at a time... so it's hard to really tell. She comes to eat mostly in the mornings and that's it. My kids are always asking me how I can tell them apart... all 3 are pure black lol! I can just tell! they all walk a little different. I feel awful.. I grabbed them a different brand of food a few weeks ago because the store was out of my normal brand ... and I think this gave them the uti! I'm going to try to order their normal brand on chewy ... ... I know they have silly names but they are all well earned and fit them perfectly lol!

that's what I was going to say - get her checked for bladder infection or UTI.
