| Proverbs 23:1-12 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, consider carefully what IS before you; and put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite. Do not desire his delicacies for they are deceptive food. Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding ,cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they'd ly away like an eagle toward heaven. Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies; for as he thinks in his heart so is he. "Eat and drink!" He says to you. But his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, and waste your pleasant words. Do not speak inhearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. Do not remove the ancient landmake, no enter the fields of the fatherless; for their Redeemer IS mighty; He will please their cause against you. Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge. Beginning in Proverbs 22:2, Solomon complies thirty instructions that empower readers to know and live according to the truth. In Proverbs 23: 6-8 caution us about the dangers associated with riches, particularly the wealth of others. Never assume that the generosity of a stranger doesn't have a price tag attached. The priority of wisdom and truth serves as knowledge. Believers should neither feel obligated to nor responsible for those who hate the truth. Christians should protect the weak with fairness and precedent, knowing that God defends based upon the truth rather than one's status or power. Very 10-11 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease. He who loves purity of heart and has grace on his lips, the King will be his friend. Because wisdom in these matters and many others is not always readily apparent, we SHOULD SEEK OUT INSTRUCITON AND KNOWLEDGE WITH DILIGENCE V 12 FOR IT IS WITH GOD ALL THING ARE POSSIBLE Matthew 19:26 Our challenge is to live up to ALL Christ IS IN us rather that down to a world lost in their trespasses and sins. |
