It's a pretty common procedure in the last few years. A lot of vets will do it when they really can't find a reason for the horse to be sore anywhere else. It's not actually a joint injection, just a big dose of cortisone on the pelvic floor. Because of the systemic meds, usually horses will feel better for awhile. IMO, most of the time, there's something else going on below like hocks, stifles, suspensory or even long toes that cause muscle soreness above.
