Are there barrel races opening up again? Here we haven't had them open and our season is just about to start. What are the guidelines races are using to safely reopen? I'd love to get our season going and it be great to have some references for how people are successfully doing it in other areas of the country. Thanks!

I went to one Monday night here locally ( SO Calif) and there are a couple going this weekend. In central CA they had one last weekend that brought in 175 entries. We technically are still under stay at home orders until May 15 I believe. I debated and debated going or not but ultimately decided , for my mental well being, I needed to go. We all paid our entries online , and pay outs were also offered in cash or via zelle. There was plenty of room for everyone and I kept my social distance. I guarentee you I was safer at this barrel race than going to Walmart for groceries! That I can assure you!! Last time I went to walmart people were breaking the rules ON PURPOSE for face coverings and distance ( markers on the ground) totally RUDE.

There are some races starting up in Utah/Wyoming

There was one last weekend, you picked your hour time slot and only 20 people could be in the arena at once.

say you picked the 9AM time, at 9 they let you in to warm up and you ran at 9:30. It was spread out over 3 days from 8a-8p No one was allowed in the arena to watch.

I talked to a few who went and said it went well.

A race this weekened got postponed until memorial day weekend but the Southwest Desert Classic futurity is going on the 15-17 & then making up the April race the 22-24.

We are finally gettting things rolling, and I have nothing in shape ha ha

Don't have one in parts of CO or TX.  It seems that some barrel racers like to turn in producers who are putting on shows.  Even if they are doing social distancing events......

Here in Idaho we have had a couple. More outside races. My family opened up our ranch to put on a barrel race and brought in 84 girls. We had lots of room for people to space out. People can pay with paypal or venmo if they want too. Also we are providing hand sanitizer for people. And not allowing spectators. It was a lot of fun. And people are happy to get back out and doing what they love.!

Nebraska and Missouri are starting to have some.  They all try and have rules to be able to keep some social distancing going on.

Montana has some going on. There are parking distance restrictions and only the current competitor and a helper or video person are allowed at the arena during the run. Otherwise you must remain at your trailer. Online or text-in entries and people that live in the area just drive in, make their run and leave. They worked this all out with their local government. I didn't get to go, but everyone said it worked really well. So far, they are all at outdoor arenas. There are some little nazis here and there, but one producer actually took drone footage during her race to prove to commissioners that all rules were being followed. I hope we don't have to do this forever, but it's better than not running at all!

Texas has had several end of April and last weekend. Stephenville, Cresson and another one. Saw the results in Barrelracing Report.
