Can someone explain to me how exactly the testing works/they come to the conclusions they do?  The explanation on the website is vague, and when I asked the gal, she said pretty much exactly what's on the website, and I'm looking for more of a scientific-based answer.

I did the test because it was only $25, and my friend swears by it. I was told my mare's right extensor tendon is sore, but what exactly in a hair would show up to signify that? I'm gonna need me some science to convince me, here...

There was a long long thread on here couple years ago about HHA. Most came to the conclusion that it certainly was NOT a valid way to address a horses health. I could see mineral/ vitamin imbalances at best but even then , not very accurate. So many of us deal with weird lameness issues on our horses , if a vet could take 1 minute and snip some hair, send it in and find out why our horses were sore, I'm sure they would be doing it. Lol.

There are two types of Horse Hair Analysis:

1. The Actual scientific method De DePaolo uses with a mass spectrometer

2. Hair testing, done by dousing or remote "muscle testing ". Someone is dangling a crystal (or similar object) over your horse's info sheet seeing what he needs .

Yeah, I read that one. That's why I'm hoping someone has an explanation on the testing that Simply Equine does to get the results. My friend who has sent multiple samples in has gotten results back, then took her horse to the vet and the results were spot on, so she's a firm believer in it, but without a scientific explanation I'm not convinced yet....

Have you contacted them to ask how they get their results? Instead of asking random people, I would go straight to the business to ask. Now, if they aren't forthcoming then I would just not consider using them.

I used Heather & I was amazed with her. When she called me with my horses results, she knew nothing of why I wanted her to do the HA on my horse. She said, he is having foot issues. I about fell over cause we have been fighting white line with him. She also mentioned he was sore in his hocks & 3 days before we talked I had him at my vet & she said he was sore in his hocks cause of his white line. No I don't sell her products, I'm just saying for me, I will continue to use her as she was right on with my horse.

E.T.A. I will always take my horse to my vet if any of them have an issue, but I think Heather does a good job for what she does

That has been my experience as well.  I know the "science" is not there, but the results have been. For the money, it is a good, non invasive option when you aren't getting answers elsewhere.

That's been my friend's experience as well - always spot on. That's why I figured I'd give it a try, but I just want to know how it works other than "everything has positive and negative energy" lol

I did ask the lady when she called me with my results, and like I stated in my original post, she didn't really give a thorough explanation of the process so I thought someone on here might have an idea.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but is muscle testing , energy testing, dousing not enough of an explanation ? Someone dangles a Crystal over your horse's hair sample and tells you what herbs you need to buy etc.

their explanation is vague because some people think this method is black magic or some type of clairvoyance that might be against either the Bible says.

I did it and they called and told me his gut and right rear end. The vet advised his gut and his rear right end is the worse side so I'm pretty convinced. I did not tell them any info except my horse's name and my phone number. I have had him on their structural boost for a little over 60 days now and I went to an arena he used to always refuse in and this time I had zero issues. I also put him on dynapro digestive, it is cheaper than simply equine's digestive and so far it has worked wonderfully as well. Although I will say I pulled his shoes off and changed the angle of his feet which helped the most I feel like, but adding those supplements defnitely gave him a boost in my opinion. I have had compliments on how much better he looks. :) I would just try it, $25 and see what they say.

Did you send hair samples to more than one company? If so, were the results pretty much the same? I am considering doing this.

100

I recently sent the same hair sample to both Simply Equine and Anja from the same horse, taken at the same time and mailed the same day. Anja cashed the check and I haven't heard anything back.. Heather at Simply called me as SOON as she looked at his hair and gave me the most factual analysis. She knew nothing but his name and his age. She told me about his previous injuries to his R stifle, his rf deep digital flexor, hocks,  and his GUT. Everything about why he wasn't gaining weight, acting up, and why he was running past the 1st barrel here and there. Everything was so so specific and so spot on. I bought her recommendation of the Structural Boost and the Digestive Balance, we're gonna try it out for 60 days and go from there.

All in all, Simply Equine is AMAZING. I am officially a 110% believer in Heather's program. And I will continue to use her.

^^^^^ THIS!!

Why not try it? What do you have to lose other than a little time and money on an issue you could easily sink 100s if not 1000s into by just snipping some hair and sending it in? Not like you're hurting the horse or putting them through unnecessary pain. I dont understand why people are so adamently against it but will rush out to buy and use the newest, greatest, fad thing out there from boots, to magnetic blankets, to copper stuff or some of the vitamins and minerals people are pumping their horses full of for mane and tail growth, gut health, PEMF, light therapy all that. Not saying its not important or useful for some of them, they are athletes we are asking a lot out of but this is getting out of control in my opinion. You could literally spend $150/day feeding/ pampering your horse with everything they have on the market these days.

ETA: I use a magnetic blanket on my horses as well as BOT boots, flair strips, as well as a variety of supplements (each gets their own, personalized diet), various pastes while running, electrolytes, chiro, acupuncture, theraplate, nebulizer all that jazz. Not saying it's BAD, just trying to make the point that $25 to send some hair in isnt that too far fetched.

I did not, I only used Heather. It was just crazy because I told her nothing about my horse and she got the same conclusions the vet advised me kust from hair.

Simply Equine does not do Hair analysis. It is an energenic evaluation, using Kinesiology.

One of my posts from a few years ago. Im no longer riding, but the mare in the below discussion is still running strong! Its one of those "Dont look a gift horse in the mouth" situatioins, Its like asking a magician to give an explanation for his magic. Just roll with it!!!!

I spent over $5200 in a 2 year period. 7 vets, 16 flexion tests and never took a bad step but I felt like she was just "off". I thought it was in right rear but it ended up to be left front. Before the hair analysis, I had dang near everything on her injected, and I'm not one that likes to inject, but I was about to shoot both of us. I almost obsessed with finding the problem. List of injections: stifles 3 times, , si joint w/ultrasound @ $400 each 2 times , whirlbone 1 time, epm treatment 2 times, changed feed to pssm diet, hocks 6 times, 11 chiro visits, new saddle, new pad, shoes, no shoes, and I don't even remember how many different supplements.
I loved this mare, so I kept trying.
I was ready to call a psychic...
I decided to send the hair off instead. My mare had stopped sweating her 4 year old year and didn't start back until spring of the next year.. when Heather called me with the results, she said that the analysis showed 3 things. Hypothalamus, sweat glands, and inflamed bursa sac on left front. I knew she was the real deal because she knew nothing about my mare or her sweating issues. She didn't even try to sell me anything. told me to have my shoer set her at a 56 degree angle and give her one week of rest in the pasture. it worked. that was 2 years ago.

Pull the mane, put it in a sandwich bag and mail it. I put my name, # and horses name on the bag and then stuck in a stamped envelope, mailed it and prayed! I'm 48 and have never been a day of my life without a horse and I have never had these kind of issues. It was crazy and so was I. :-)
