Hello,
I'm looking for a new saddle. My mare isn't inpressed with the tammy fischer treeless, so I'm looking to go back to a treed saddle.
I'm looking at either a crown c or a double j.
My mare is very round, mutton withered and a bit downhill built.
She is too wide for the tammy fischer wide fit..
I'm looking at a 9.5" crown c or a wide fit double j.
Any advice on what may work best for my mare?
Thanks so much
Boy she is a thick mare and reallly cute, the way shes built you may need to try a Crown C. How old is she and whats her breeding?
I have the Double J wide fit for my gelding , but hes no where as thick as your mare.
And Welcome to the board
Thank you! That may give me more options for sure with the crown c. If the double j wide is too narrow, I guess theres no where else to go from there.. I just got her in March, have never had a horse built like her before. She is 13. Mostly cow bred, Gasohol on bottom side. (Canadian barrel sire)
I have a horse build similar and bought a crown c. It was all fine and dandy until I started adding speed. I had issues with the saddle rolling forward.
I still haven't found the perfect saddle fit for her. I started using a saddleright pad and an older saddle I had. I think for my horse a thinner pad was key. Saddle is staying in place now.
I've had people suggest a Coats saddle. I haven't had a chance yet though.
Good luck!

Thank you. I've heard things about the crown c tipping forward or throwing the rider forward so makes me hesitant on that one too.
I have heard great things about saddleright pads.. the price tag is what is keeping me from trying one. Although it may just fix the fit with the treeless saddle I have now. I'm riding in a 5 star treeless 7/8" thick.. and the pommel seems to put alot of pressure behind her withers. But could very well be that the pad is too thick.
I will have to look into the coats as well!
