Hi, looking to insure 2 horses and not having any luck getting any quotes. I've tried Markel and can not get anyone to call back. I live in IL. Anyone have any more companies I can call?
Plains Horizon is good. 877-569-8960 or [email protected]
Message me. I would love to give you a quote.
I use Wilkins Livestock Insurers out of Nebraska. They are very quick to respond.
Adding to this... I have not "yet" insured a horse.
What are the benefits? who would it be for? I compete my mare in barrel racing but we are no 1D winners here... Just curious as a general overview and if it is "worth it" overall.
I replied to your PM.

Hi I sent you an email
I just insured mine with LCI they were great and a little cheaper than some other I got quotes on for same coverage. :)
I contacted Rosie Bradley & she got my futurity mare insured for what she was worth & the mare had great coverage. Rosie is on FB. She is so nice & great to work with.
Justin Insurance. They are great to work with.

The horses that I have insured are the ones that I could not replace financially "easily". This absolutely does not mean I have extremely high dollar horses or that we are anywhere near the 1D. I like to go to jackpots 1-2 times a week and I am still trying to get with my horse that is insured so we are pretty slow right now I got coverage that includes death, theft, and there is an amount (I believe $5k) for emergency colic surgery. For the price of the insurance, it gives me a little peace of mind that if something horrible happens I would have a little money to go towards a new horse.
Olive Insurance is great to work with as well.
I used Plains Horizon in the past and currently have one insured through Broadstone. The agent there has been very responsive when I've e-mailed to make changes, etc. and they do my billing online which is convenient. I (luckily) do not have experience with making claims - to me, having the horse insured is "insurance" that nothing will happen to them because I'm actually prepared for it to.
I have markel. I tried to contact the company too and no response too but the person I bought my new horse from recommended an agent through Markel and that's who I used. Very easy and it's a local person I deal with.
I ended up doing it for the first time this summer. I had one horse that was marketed for a high dollar amount and was with a trainer and would be having people compete on her and try her so I needed to insure incase something happened I wasn't just out. When I purchased my new horse the trainer I bought her from highly recommended I insure as the horse would quickly increase in value. I have mortality- so I am able to purchase a new horse of the worst happened and I have major medical and colic surgery coverage so if something happens I don't have to make decisions based on financial reasons.
