| Just recently found out my horse is a confirmed bleeder. He had 10 days off after I found out, and was on SMZ tablets for a week. Went to a barrel race last weekend and ran him on 5 cc of Lasix. I went IV two hours out. I could barely get him to high lope the pattern. He was pretty much sleeping through our run. I gave him an electrolyte paste after our run. I did talk to my vet, and he said some horses take a while to get used to it. Any advice? Maybe I should give the electrolyte paste before my run? I think I'm going to try 4 cc at the next race instead of 5.. A half an hour after I gave him the Lasix he didn't even want to eat any hay. He was pretty much sleeping at the trailer. And usually he is always eating hay. |

| It really dehydrates them. Most lasix users refer to it as " Wash out" . My mare only gets 3cc 1 hour out. She pees so much that after her run and for the next TWO DAYs she looks and feels like absolute crap. My vet told me to really get a lot of electrolytes In her for few days before she runs. |

| It will take them a bit to get used to it, but that seems like a lot. My Standardbred is HUGE (16.3 and probably 1,000-1,100 in race condition ) gets 5cc IV 4 hours out. Most tracks require 4 hours out, but a vet told me it is most effective closer to 3, so it’s even losing effectiveness by that point. And she has to go a mile. It’s a diuretic, so they’re going to pee a lot. I don’t give her an electrolyte paste after the race, but a lot of people do. She has access when she gets home afterwards though. However, she’s on daily electrolytes as Lasix literally drains out the electrolytes

| Thank you! In your opinion what is the most effective electrolyte? I have apple a day but he won't touch it.

| You might think about getting a nebulizer. They really work for a bleeder . Silver Horse care has a good one. And it’s really affordable |

This is what I use, but it's cherry flavored. My mare is a piggy though and will eat anything and everything. https://www.bigdweb.com/product/horse+health+electro+dex+equine+electrolyte+-+5+lb.do?sortby=bestSellers&refType=&from=Search&ecList=6&ecCategory= |

Location: West Texas | Try sprinkling jello on top of the electrolytes. That worked for me. |

I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't gotten my mare scoped but she was showing all the classic signs of bleeding. However, she seems to be clocking about half a second slower on the lasix. Which sucks. I tried Apple a day and she won't even touch her food with it. So I'm going to give her an electrolyte paste this weekend and see if I see a difference. |

Location: CTX | This is the one that I give daily. They also have a paste you can give, but I use the powder. I like that it doesn't have any sugar added. Smells like oranges. I use it year round on all our horses. It was developed for the 1996 Olympics. https://kppusa.com/product/summer-games-electrolyte/ |
